PHOENIX, ARIZONA: At Turning Point USA's AmericaFest 2025, Greg Gutfeld did not hold back in criticizing Jimmy Kimmel over his comments regarding Charlie Kirk’s death.
Gutfeld claimed that Kimmel deals with "self-doubt," describing him as having “imposter syndrome,” and suggested that his reaction was driven by envy and ego.
Greg Gutfeld attributes Jimmy Kimmel’s reaction to ego and self-doubt
Reflecting on his own approach to media and competition, Gutfeld said, "I didn't look at myself as competing against them. I said I thought to myself, no, I'm going for bigger fish. Like... I bet I could get the same number as all of them combined, so I did. I didn't even think about them. What I was thinking about was like 'Monday Night Football', like actual things that people watch."
He continued, "You look at something like Kimmel, and you go back to what I was talking about that. When somebody is upset about something, it's more about themselves. What kind of what is it about Kimmel that makes him so upset about Charlie Kirk's death? It was clearly a lack of impact."
Gutfeld suggested envy and ego were behind Kimmel’s reaction. "He saw somebody have an impact that he kind of thought he wanted, and I feel like a lot of people feel that way when some when something big happens, and it's not them," the Fox News host said.
"And they are so ego-driven, it hurts them, and his lashing out was basically saying, wait, a second, I truly am irrelevant. Behind every resentment is self-doubt. You hear the imposter syndrome? That's... It's kind of more. Maybe I'm not all that I cracked up to be, and it sucks. And I think that's why he lashed out at Kirk," he added.
"He saw the world change, and he was left behind. Imagine being in a movie in which if you find out in the final act that you're the bad guy, how do you deal with it? That's how you deal with it," Gutfeld concluded.
Kimmel has not publicly responded to Gutfeld’s remarks.

Charlie Kirk was shot and killed on September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, an incident that quickly became a major turning point in the political landscape.
Kimmel addressed Kirk's killing in a lengthy monologue on his late-night show, which drew significant controversy. He claimed the "MAGA gang" was trying to characterize the 22-year-old suspect, Tyler Robinson, as "anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it."
He was temporarily pulled off the air after Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr lashed out at ABC and its parent company Disney over the late-night comedian's remarks.
The remarks also sparked reactions from Donald Trump, who publicly criticized him. Kimmel later fired back at Trump, escalating the public dispute.
