Gwyneth Paltrow makes big-screen comeback after 5-year hiatus due to daughter Apple’s celebrity crush
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Gwyneth Paltrow's big film return can be attributed to her daughter Apple Martin, who encouraged her to curtail her acting career due to her "deep passion" for expanding her multimillion-dollar Goop enterprise.
However, the 'Iron Man' actress has been persuaded to make her big-screen comeback after a five-year hiatus by her daughter's ardor, specifically for actor Timothee Chalamet.
The actor, 28, who is presently dating Kylie Jenner, will feature with Paltrow, 51, in the forthcoming A24 film 'Marty Supreme,' per Page Six.
Gwyneth Paltrow's daughter Apple Martin has huge crush on Timothee Chalamet
Gwyneth Paltrow, who shares Apple and son Moses, 18, will co-star with the 'Dune' actor in the upcoming movie 'Marty Supreme,' which is based on the life of Marty Reisman and the world of professional ping-pong players.
Apple, 20, reportedly "convinced" her mother to accept the offer after learning that Chalamet is not only producing but also playing the lead role, despite Paltrow's lack of "major wish" to appear.
"As soon as Gwyneth told Apple that Timothee is not only a producer but also the lead actor, she pleaded with her mom to accept," a source revealed to Daily Mail.
The insider added, "Gwyneth signed on to co-star with Timothee in Marty Supreme thanks to her daughter, who has had a crush on the Dune star for years."
"After reading it and loving it, despite having no major wish to act right now, she was convinced by Apple, who intends to be on set as much as possible."
Paltrow last appeared on screen as Pepper Potts in the 2019 film 'Avengers: End Game.' She did, however, make appearances in several short films since then, besides her husband Brad Falchuk's production of 'The Politician' on Netflix, 'She Said' in 2022, and an episode of 'American Horror Stories' in 2023.
Even though Chalamet encouraged the Goop founder to make a comeback to the big screen, she earlier admitted to Entertainment Tonight that only one of her 'Iron Man' co-stars could convince her to go back to the big screen.
"Well, it would be very hard for me to do any acting right at the moment, just because of my job. But, I guess Robert Downey Jr could probably always get me back," said Paltrow at the time.
Gwyneth Paltrow wanted to focus on wellness brand Goop during planned hiatus in 2019
Paltrow stated when she first revealed her intended break in 2019 that she did not intend to give up acting completely to concentrate on building her Goop brand.
In an interview with Savannah Guthrie on the 'Today' show, she stated, "I’ve never said that I am quitting acting. What I say is Goop is my full-time passion, and being the founder and CEO of Goop is what I do all day every day, and occasionally when something is the right thing and it works out around my children and my Goop life, I’m able to participate."
"I think I’m just not focused on full-time acting right now," she added at the time.
However, the actress eventually redirected her attention from her "incredible acting career" to Goop, the wellness brand she founded in 2008 that has since grown to be valued at an estimated $250 million.
Paltrow declared on a panel at the Red Sea International Film Festival in 2023 that she would "consider" going back to the screen. "I am happy now with what I am doing in Goop, but I never say never," she said.
"I don’t know what the future will hold. If I am not busy running Goop, and if one of my best friends, says please come and do that with us, I might consider."
