Gwyneth Paltrow trying to reconnect with ex Ben Affleck after their children join same Ivy League school
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Gwyneth Paltrow is reportedly trying to reconnect with her former boyfriend Ben Affleck as their children have started their university lives at Yale.
The 51-year-old actress is the wife of Brad Falchuk and the stepmother of his son Brody while Affleck shares his daughter Violet with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
Insiders revealed to In Touch that both teenagers have begun their courses at the same Ivy League school and Paltrow “just thinks they could be a good source of support for each other since they have the celebrity parent-connection thing in common.”
Paltrow wants her son and Affleck’s daughter to be pals
A mole revealed that the ‘Shakespeare in Love’ star “is a big worrier and hyper-protective, even of her step-kids, so she’s trying to make sure that Brody will have some good solid people in his orbit now that he’s so far away from home.”
“She knows Violet is a class act and a great student, so she’s hoping they will become friendly,” they noted.
The insider also mentioned that since Affleck is divorcing Jennifer Lopez, it seems Paltrow, who dated him on and off from 1997 to 2000, is trying to re-build the connection.
“She’s sent him all sorts of Yale-branded stuff, including some ‘Yale Dad’ shirts, which is sweet but a little annoying for her hubby, who finds it odd that she’s still so connected to her ex,” the source shared.
They also disclosed that the businesswoman is “so proud to have this connection to an Ivy League school. She’s really acting like this is her achievement somehow and using it as a chance to brag — and wants Ben to do the same.”
Ben Affleck is ‘where he wants to be’
However, the ‘Gone Girl’ actor has more important things on his plate currently.
Early in September, a source told PEOPLE, “He's where he wants to be: close to his kids and in a neighborhood that he loves. He enjoys working too, and is very focused on the positives.”
A second mole asserted, “He thrives when he has work projects. He's been great when it comes to the kids too. He's doing exactly what he wants. He seems very happy.”
But a tipster close to Lopez said that “she tried so hard to make things work and it didn't matter to Ben.”
They stated, “She's surrounded by family, friends, and her kids. She always manages to have a positive outlook. The divorce is difficult for her, but she always finds a way to move forward.”
Another source added, “It’s really hit her hard. She’s very upset and disappointed with Ben.”
