PARIS, FRANCE: Simone Biles defeated Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade once again in the vault apparatus final on Saturday, August 3, winning her third gold medal of the Paris Olympics.

For her career, it’s Biles’ seventh gold and 10th medal overall, extending her record of most Olympic medals by an American gymnast, according to USA Today.

Simone Biles secures third gold medal in 2024 Paris Olympics

Simone Biles performed her iconic namesake vault, the Yurchenko double pike, or “Biles II," for the last time in Paris. It's considered the most difficult vault in the women's rulebook and her landing was the best of the Paris Games, earning a 15.700.

Her second vault was a “Cheng,” which features a half-turn onto the table, followed by a 1.5 twist into the air.

Biles is the second woman to win vault twice, joining Vera Casalavska of Czechoslovakia as a two-time gold medalist on the vault. Casalavska went back to back in 1964 and 1968, as reported by NBC.

Turning in a score of 15.3, the 27-year-old from Spring, Texas beat out Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade (14.966, silver) and fellow American Jade Carey (14.466, bronze) on Saturday.

It’s the fourth consecutive Olympics that an American woman has medaled in the event, a streak that dates back to the 2012 Games in London.

Simone Biles aims to tie all-time Olympic gold record

To tie the all-time Olympic gold medal record for a female American gymnast, Simone Biles will have to sweep her final two events of the balance beam and floor exercise at the 2024 Paris Games on Monday, August 5, to reach nine gold medals.

The feat, given her performance, seems well within reach as noted by the New York Post.

"It’s about not many people in the world can do it to this level," Biles said after winning gold in the vault final.

Biles’ teammate Jade Carey, who won bronze, her second medal here and third of her career said, "This medal means everything to me."

"It was one of my biggest motivators to get back here," she added.

Internet calls Simone Biles a 'legend'

Netizens widely celebrated Simone Biles’ latest achievement.

"The GOAT is golden again. Simone Biles is the #ParisOlympics vault champion," NBC Olympics & Paralympics posted on X (formerly Twitter).

"She's dominating everything!" wrote one user on X. Another user commented, "You're witnessing a once in a lifetime legend."

Another user asked, "Is there anything she can’t do?" and one more wrote, "Simone Biles is GOAT in gymnastics."

"She's killing it at her black person job," wrote another.
