OREM, UTAH: Prosecutors are saying Tyler Robinson, the man accused of killing conservative firebrand Charlie Kirk, all but confessed his crime in real time as he texted his partner and roommate with a play-by-play of what happened at Utah Valley University.

He even left a note behind for his partner, tucked under a keyboard. “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it," it read.

Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray revealed that Robinson also texted his partner directly, “I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out.”

The roommate exchange

After the shooting, Robinson’s roommate reacted in disbelief. “You weren't the one who did it right????” the roommate asked.

“I am, I'm sorry,” Robinson replied.

The roommate pushed back, “I thought they caught the person?”

Robinson corrected him. “No, they grabbed some crazy old dude, then interrogated someone in similar clothing..."

“Why?” the roommate finally asked.

“Why did I do it?” Robinson shot back.

“Yeah.”

“I had enough of his hatred,” Robinson wrote. “Some hate can't be negotiated out.”

Secrets, rifles, and cover-ups

Gray said Robinson abandoned his rifle and even begged his partner to help conceal the evidence. “To be honest,” he wrote, “I had hoped to keep this secret until I died of old age. I am sorry to involve you.”

In another message, Robinson explained how he was trying to retrieve the gun he’d stashed. “I had planned to grab my rifle from my drop point shortly after, but most of that side of town got locked down. It's quiet, almost enough to get out, but there's one vehicle lingering. Going to attempt to retrieve it again, hopefully they have moved on. I haven’t seen anything about them finding it.”

His roommate asked how long he had been planning the shooting. “A bit over a week, I believe," Robinson revealed. "I can get close to it but there is a squad car parked right by it. I think they already swept that spot, but I don't wanna chance it.”

The longer Robinson typed, the more the paranoia poured out. He said he regretted not grabbing the rifle sooner, worried what his father would think if he came home without “grandpa’s rifle,” and confessed he had to ditch the weapon in a bush while changing outfits.

“Idek if it had a serial number, but it wouldn't trace to me," he wrote. "I worry about prints I had to leave it in a bush where I changed outfits. didn't have the ability or time to bring it with.... I might have to abandon it and hope they don't find prints. how the [expletive] will I explain losing it to my old man.... only thing I left was the rifle wrapped in a towel....”

He even referenced a bizarre hobby of engraving bullets with meme phrases. “Remember how I was engraving bullets? The [expletive] messages are mostly a big meme, if I see ‘notices bulge uwu’ on fox news I might have a stroke,” he wrote.

Still, he sounded oddly proud of the weapon. “Alright im gonna have to leave it, that really [expletive] sucks.... judging from today I'd say grandpas gun does just fine idk. I think that was a $2k scope.”

Charged and cornered

Between the texts, the note, and the rifle, investigators say Robinson practically handed them the case.

He’s now facing charges of aggravated murder and felony discharge of a firearm, plus an extra witness tampering charge for allegedly asking his partner to delete the incriminating messages.
