LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Cleveland Browns player Hakeem Adeniji and his wife, Kayla, are grieving the loss of their son, Semiu after a devastating stillbirth. Just six days before the baby's due date, an ultrasound revealed there was no heartbeat, shattering their dreams of welcoming their little one. 

The couple, who married in July 2021, had joyfully announced their pregnancy in May with a heartfelt photoshoot, sharing their excitement and prayers for the arrival of their son.

Hakeem Adeniji opens up about devastating stillbirth of his son

Hakeem Adeniji shared the heartbreaking news of the stillbirth of his son, Semiu Zade Adeniji, in a deeply emotional video post on Monday, November 6. Fighting back tears, he revealed that this devastating loss occurred just six days before their baby boy’s due date.

Adeniji spoke candidly, saying, “It was the worst moment of my life. Everybody that knows me knows how bad I wanted to be a dad.”

He explained that on November 1 when his wife Kayla could not feel their baby moving, they had an ultrasound done which confirmed the stillbirth.

“We were six days away from having our little boy. We got to hold him. We got to spend some moments with him,” he said.

"We’ll never forget him. We love him. He’s going to live on in our hearts forever," he added.

In another heartfelt post on November 11, Monday, Hakeem shared a carousel of four images, capturing precious moments of the family of three.

The first image shows Kayla and Hakeem holding their son in the hospital room, a bittersweet memory. The following two images reveal Hakeem's deep grief, as he shared his emotional journey following the tragedy.

 

He began by expressing his sorrow: "It's been a little over a week since we lost our boy. There's been, anger, sadness, and emptiness. The fact that he is gone has set in now and nothing can change that."

 

Reflecting on what he had lost, he continued, "I'll never get to see him grow up, and he'll never get to read his journal I wrote for him. I miss him and l'll miss him everyday for the rest of my life."

 Despite his heartbreak, Adeniji expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and prayers, and spoke about his enduring desire to be a father. "This will be hard, but that's life. Always has been and probably always will be. We appreciate all the prayers, support and well wishes from everyone it is much appreciated."

He added, "I still want to be a dad more than anything else in this world, and he gave me that even though it was short lived. When and if I ever get that opportunity again I'll never take a day for granted. I love my boy and he will live through us."

 

The final image in the post shows Adeniji holding his son, with his eyes red and filled with tears, a poignant moment of raw emotion as he mourns the death of his child.

After Hakeem Adeniji announced the heartbreaking stillbirth of his son on Instagram, the post quickly gained over 5,000 likes and was met with an outpouring of heartfelt comments from followers. 

One user wrote, "We cry with you 😔 I am so sorry your family has experienced this too, his name and story and spirit will live forever ❤️‍🩹 we will never forget him." 

A fan consoled, "He is so beautiful. Continuing to send your family prayers of strength for the days ahead!" 

An Instagram user said, "You are a beautiful, Kayla is a beautiful soul. 🥹 we love you and fervently continuing to pray for you both. Your strength in the lord is inspiring. ♥️"  

One person expressed, "He’s so beautiful 💔. Take care of each other, so very sorry for your loss 😞."

Someone else stated, "My condolences and may God bless your family. As a father myself, I feel your pain. His memory and majesty will never fade. May God bless you with fatherhood again soon." 

One person said, "My heart breaks for you, I’m so sorry for your loss. Sending love and prayers to you both." 

Another added, "You are the best dad Hakeem. I’m so proud of you, I’m so proud of Kayla. Semiu is a perfect boy and is forever your son."
