CAMPBELLSVILLE, KENTUCKY: A mother in Kentucky is accused of manslaughter after her 6-month-old daughter was found dead inside her home.
Haley Fisher, 24, is also accused of three counts of first-degree criminal abuse of a child, two counts of wanton endangerment, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the Campbellsville Police Department.
Haley Fisher's 6-month-old child appeared 'dehydrated and pale'
A family friend called the police on Friday night, February 2, about the dead child, according to Campbellsville Police Chief Shannon Wilson, as reported by WDRB. Fisher told investigators that a man with methamphetamine had come to her house that evening.
About 9.30 pm, she smoked the drug in her bedroom while her three children were inside with the door open. She said the baby was not responding after about thirty minutes.
The baby had been "neglected and malnourished," according to an arrest affidavit. The child "was dressed in two one-piece jumpers, wrapped in a blanket with a cradel cap, a space heater on and the door closed, appearing dehydrated and pale."
Police were informed by emergency medical personnel that the baby's room had an 85 degree temperature.
Haley Fisher refused to provide her child medical attention
Although Fisher hadn't taken the newborn to the doctor since her birth, she did admit to the investigators that the baby girl had been losing weight since Thanksgiving.
When asked how she got groceries, she told detectives that friends would take her, despite having told police she didn't have a car and couldn't get the girl to the hospital.
“Ms Fisher had ample resources to get her child medical attention but refused to do so,” the report said.
The other two boys, ages one and three, were taken by Child Protective Services to a hospital for an assessment. According to police, the younger boy tested positive for meth.
Fisher later admitted to police that she uses meth three or four times a week, but she was unable to explain how she was able to regularly obtain drugs while being unable to provide medical attention for her daughter.
According to WHAS, Fisher was taken into custody on Monday and charged with a crime on Wednesday. She was given a $500K bond. Her next court date is February 14.
