Halle Berry shares her experience with infidelity after Gayle King's confession: 'It stays with you'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Halle Berry has spoken up about being cheated on by her ex-husband as she praised Gayle King, who recently shared about her own scandalous past marriage, for initiating the conversation.
Appearing on ‘Today With Jenna & Sheinelle’ on Thursday, May 28, Berry said, “It's taking your power back, and I think we should talk about it. Absolutely."
Halle Berry says she 'appreciates' Gayle King for being open about her past marriage
"And I'm proud of her for saying that and sharing this that happened. Because it has happened to many of us,” the actress, 59, asserted.
Berry then went on to focus on her own marriage with ex-husband Eric Benet, whom she found cheating on her during their marriage from 2001 to 2005.
“You remember every detail of the whole situation, and it stays with you forever. So when you can share it, somehow that's therapeutic. It's a catharsis when you can really share it, and someone else can say what their experience has been. So I appreciate her,” the ‘Catwoman’ star stated.
Halle Berry claims talking about past traumas was 'very helpful'
The mother-of-two further shed more light on her own story as she noted, “I didn't talk about it necessarily very publicly, but I did talk about it. I did not carry the shame. I talked about it with my friends, I talked about it with other women.”
“There were children involved, I didn't go on a public rampage about things, but I did talk about it, and it was very, very helpful. I needed that,” Berry added.
Gayle King found her friend with her ex-husband over three decades ago
The ‘Monster’s Ball’ actress’ confession came a day after King on ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast reflected on her past marriage with William Bumpus.
She disclosed how she found Bumpus with her friend, who was just in a towel, in their house in 1990.
The TV personality even recalled telling the woman: “'I can't believe that you are here and that you are doing this. I can't believe that you are doing this.' And I even said, 'I thought we were friends!' It sounded so pitiful.”
Gayle King's ex-husband says sorry to her publicly
Following King’s shocking revelation, Bumpus issued an apology to TMZ. He said, “My deepest apologies to Gayle, to our daughter Kirby and her husband, Virgil, to our son William and his wife, Elise, and to our three grandchildren, for the pain I caused decades ago.”
Those actions were mine. I have long owned them — including publicly in my own words in 2016, which still stand,” the attorney stated, before adding, “Gayle has every right to share what was a painful chapter that changed the trajectory of our marriage and our family nearly forty years ago. I respect her right to tell her story, and that’s where I’ll leave it.”
