Halyna Hutchins’ mother snubs ‘Rust’ premiere as Alec Baldwin never apologized personally for her death
TORUN, POLAND: Three years after the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of 'Rust', the film is set to premiere at the Camerimage festival in Poland.
While the event is positioned as a tribute to Hutchins, her mother, Olga Solovey, has refused to attend, stating Alec Baldwin has yet to personally apologize for the incident, as reported by Variety.
Halyna Hutchins’ mother declines to attend 'Rust' premiere, citing lack of apology from Alec Baldwin
Baldwin, who starred in and produced the film, has consistently denied pulling the trigger of the prop gun that fatally injured Hutchins during filming in New Mexico in 2021.
Criminal charges against Baldwin were dismissed earlier this year due to procedural errors, but the controversy surrounding his involvement persists.
In a statement, Solovey’s lawyer, Gloria Allred, accused Baldwin of “disrespecting” the Hutchins family.
“Even though Mr. Baldwin discharged the gun that killed Halyna, he has never called them to apologize,” Allred said. She added that Baldwin’s legal team’s claims that Hutchins was emotionally distant from her family were “false, hurtful, and insulting.”
Solovey, who filed a civil negligence lawsuit against Baldwin in June, expressed her frustration with the actor’s ongoing refusal to take responsibility. She also criticized the decision to promote 'Rust' at the festival, describing it as an attempt to profit from her daughter’s death.
“I had hoped to see my daughter’s work honored in Poland,” Solovey said. “Instead, Baldwin’s actions continue to deepen my pain with his refusal to apologize or take accountability.”
The Camerimage festival clarified that Baldwin was not invited to the event, emphasizing the screening’s intent to celebrate Hutchins’ legacy rather than spotlight the controversy. Meanwhile, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the film’s armorer, is serving an 18-month sentence for involuntary manslaughter in connection to the shooting.
Halyna Hutchins’ mother skips 'Rust' premiere in protest, draws social media support
The world premiere of 'Rust' at the Camerimage festival in Poland is drawing controversy as Halyna Hutchins’ mother, Olga Solovey, has refused to attend, citing Alec Baldwin’s lack of apology for her daughter’s death. Hutchins, the film’s cinematographer, was tragically killed on set in 2021 when a prop gun Baldwin was holding discharged.
Fans and critics have rallied behind Solovey’s stance, taking to social media to express outrage. One user wrote, “He hasn’t apologized to the family of the woman he killed? I knew he was trash but damn.” Another added, "Wait, Baldwin hasn’t even apologized to her for shooting her daughter." Another fan observed, "What a complete effing jackass!”

"I feel so horrible for her. Unimaginable," a user said.
Another user wrote, "She has every right to feel that way. She lost somebody she cared about in an accident that could’ve been avoided. May she find peace in her grief and if Baldwin doesn’t want to apologize than to hell with him."
