Harry and Meghan felt ‘very hurt and betrayed’ after Prince William met Donald Trump in Paris
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly felt “betrayed” by Prince William after he met President-elect Donald Trump.
The Prince of Wales and the president-elect met during the reopening of Notre Dame on December 7 in Paris. In the past, Trump has shown his dislike toward the Sussexes. He even called them out for allegedly betraying the late Queen Elizabeth, The Independent reported.
Prince William and Donald Trump's meeting ‘triggered a storm of emotions for Harry and Meghan’
Speaking about the impact of Prince William and Donald Trump’s meeting on the former senior royals, a source said, “Of course, William was fulfilling a professional role but Trump has been so vicious towards them, and of course, William is aware of that, so Meghan and Harry can't help but think he could have discussed it with them first,” according to OK! Magazine.
The insider asserted, “The fact Harry can't even get William to pick up the phone is insulting enough, but now they feel very hurt and betrayed that their feelings appear not to have been taken into consideration.”
Continuing further, the insider noted that the “whole situation has triggered a storm of emotions for Harry and Meghan.”
“They're hurt and angry and genuinely quite shocked because, for all their issues with William, they still believed his politics and beliefs were more in line with theirs,” they added.
The insider, however, added that Harry and Meghan “had to know William would eventually shake hands with Trump for the sake of international relations.”
Royal expert says Donald Trump loves the royal family
Royal expert Ingrid Seward, however, does not think so as he believes that the future king got "a kick" out of meeting Trump.
He also stated, “I thought they would just be shaking hands in Notre Dame, but it was a proper meeting.”
“I think the whole royal family is very vital in the special relationship the government has with the Trump administration because he loves them,” he said.
Prince William publicly acknowledged his meeting with Donald Trump
Meanwhile, the Republican leader had called Prince William “a good man” in Paris. “A good man, this one! He's doing a fantastic job,” he added.
The Prince of Wales also spoke about the meeting on X (formerly Twitter). The father-of-three posted, “A wonderful event to celebrate the reopening of the @notredameparis . It is an immense achievement to renovate such a beautiful and culturally important building.”
