Just before the announcement post of her new album dropped, many fans noticed her profile picture on Instagram turn to black and white. This made many fans think that she might announce 'Reputations (Taylor's version)', but it turned out to be the announcement of a brand new project.

In a heartfelt note accompanying the teaser photo, Swift shared, "'And So I enter into evidence my tarnished coat of arms my muses, acquired like bruises my talismans and charms. The tick, tick, tick of love bombs. My veins of pitch black ink.' - All's fair in love and poetry... Sincerely, The Chairman of The Tortured Poets Department."
