Sabrina Carpenter says she was 'heartbroken' two years ago
Recalling a difficult time in her life, Carpenter said, "I was heartbroken two years ago. I was in a really, really different mental place," without revealing the identity of her former partner.
"For me, that was truly my first heartbreak," she said, adding that this experience that took her some time to recover made her "question everything" about herself.
"So those instincts, like the trust in yourself, just the ability to move throughout a room without questioning if other people's opinions are more important than your own," Carpenter continued.
"And it just comes with time and it comes with ease," she added.

It remains unclear whether Carpenter's remarks about "having fun" are connected with her blossoming romance with Keoghan.
Speculations about the duo's romance were fueled by their flirtatious exchanges on social media and public sightings including their recent appearance at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party in Beverly Hills, California.
They have also been spotted together at Los Angeles hot spots Luna Luna and Nobu.
While the 'Espresso' singer served as the opening act on the Eras Tour for Taylor Swift in Singapore, Keoghan was seen wearing a 'Sabrina' friendship bracelet at some of the Hollywood parties, according to ET.
A source close to the situation told the outlet in February that Keoghan and Carpenter have been spending time together.
The 'Saltburn' actor split with his former partner Alyson Sandro with whom he shares a son, Brando. They reportedly separated in July 2023.

The singer spoke to Lowe about her current approach to romance as she said, "I want to maintain the sense of myself that really feels whole on my own."
"And I think that when you're searching for someone else or something else to make you feel whole, then you have more work to do. I mean, it's easier said than done," she added.
