MOUNT POCONO, PENNSYLVANIA: President Donald Trump on Tuesday, December 9, announced a significant improvement in the condition of West Virginia National Guard Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, who was critically wounded in the November 26 shooting in Washington, DC.
The positive update comes about two weeks after the attack, which killed fellow National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom, with Trump noting that Wolfe "got up from bed."
Trump shares significant medical update on Andrew Wolfe
Speaking at an event in Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania, President Trump shared the medical update that he had received on Wolfe's recovery, highlighting the positive changes in his condition.
He recounted his close communication with Wolfe's mother, Monica, Trump stated, "She said, 'we're all praying' and I'm praying. And then she called to say, ‘Sir, he moved his finger today.’ This is like three days later — ‘he moved his finger.’"
He then revealed the most recent update, "And today I got a call that he got up from bed. Do you believe that? He got up, he got up," Trump told the crowd.
He clarified the extent of the recovery, noting, "Now, he didn't speak. He's not ready for that yet. I mean, you got hit in the head, but he got up, and boy, they're so happy."
Trump recounts call to wounded soldier's parents
Recalling another conversation with Wolfe’s parents following the shooting, Trump praised the mother's unwavering belief in her son's recovery, even when doctors said there was no chance of his survival.
Trump described his initial call to the hospital, "The night that he was so badly hit and the doctors gave him almost no chance, I called their hospital room and spoke to her, and she said, sure, he'll be fine," Trump said.

"'Oh no, I'm telling you, he's going to. I'm praying, the whole country is praying, sir. I'm telling you, don't worry about it. He's going to be fine.’ This is the mother talking to me."
He noted the father was "devastated" but acknowledged both parents as incredible, later inviting them to the Oval Office, where Wolfe’s mother maintained her certainty, saying, "'sir, he's fine.' It was amazing, actually."
Trump praises medical teams for 'amazing' care
The incident occurred on November 26 near the Farragut West area of downtown Washington, where Wolfe, and Beckstrom were ambushed. While Sarah Beckstrom succumbed to her injuries, Wolfe was rushed to critical care.
President Trump offered praise for the medical personnel and military support staff assisting Wolfe, stating, "It's amazing. And the care that they've given him — the hospital and the generals that have been there, the military that's been there — it's amazing."
