Trump denies attempt to block Biden from border win, Internet says 'he really has dementia'
WASHINGTON, DC: Former President Donald Trump, who has opposed the emerging bipartisan border deal, denied any attempts from his side to block President Joe Biden, his potential rival in the 2024 presidential election, from achieving a legislative victory, reported The Hill.
After his meeting with Teamsters President Sean O'Brien in Washington, DC, on Wednesday, January 31, reporters questioned Trump whether he does not wish to see the border deal passed to prevent a legislative victory for his successor ahead of the November election.
"No, I didn't say that," the Republican frontrunner stated outright.
However, contradicting his remarks, Trump did have a backstage role in lobbying GOP Senators to kill the legislation headed to the Senate floor.
Following his decisive victories in Iowa and New Hampshire, the ex-President has established his position as the clear frontrunner and likely GOP nominee.
Trump to support the border deal if only it solves the 'problem'
Trump, who previously argued that the bill was unnecessary and could burden Republicans, told the media that he would back the bipartisan legislation if it is a "great border bill" that would resolve the "problem."
"I did say that you have, if you're not gonna get a great border bill, an immigration bill, don't do a bill. If it's not going to be good, if it's not going to solve the border problem, don't do the bill," the former President continued.
"And that was very important to me and lot of people do call me, they respect and say 'what do you think.' If the bill is not going to be a great bill and really solve the problem, I wouldn't do it at all. Not for political reasons, just for US reasons."

The worsening crisis on the southern border of the US is among the top campaign weapons Trump has against Biden. In a recent rally in Nevada, the Presidential hopeful slammed the incumbent for turning the border into a "big gushing wound."
Pressure is mounting on Biden, with illegal migrant crossings at the southern border reaching record highs along with Trump-supporting Republican lawmakers trying to thwart the bill.
"Give me the power. I've asked from the very day I got in office. Give me the border patrol, give me the judges, give me the people who can stop this and make it work right," Biden urged the Congress on January 30.
The immigration issue will thus play a vital role in deciding who will enter the White House after the November election.
