Internet abuzz as Pedro Pascal reveals his 'psychotic' method for memorizing lines
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Pedro Pascal has disclosed his "psychotic" method of memorizing lines, prompting many fans to draw parallels with the character of Reed Richards - the MCU superhero he portrays in 'Fantastic Four.'
During a SAG-AFTRA Foundation Conversations interview earlier this month, ‘The Last of Us’ star opened up about the ingenious technique he uses to learn his lines.
Pedro Pascal shares his method of memorizing lines
Pascal, 48, was in talks with Kieran Culkin, Matthew Macfadyen, and Billy Crudup during the interview earlier in February.
All the actors were nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series at the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards and were talking candidly about their methods of memorizing lines.
Talking about his method, Pascal said, “I bet I can find and show you the psychotic example, physical example, that I have now that I have to do to learn my lines," per Us Weekly.
‘The Mandalorian’ star then started searching for a piece of paper which he later held up to show the camera. The paper contained several letters written in neat rows and columns.
Pascal then went on to explain, “This is this, like, psycho first letter of every word,” before Culkin remarked “Gibberish.”
Playfully likening himself to "the Unabomber," Pascal elaborated, "You just use the first letter of each word in kind of these sort of towers, these columns, I guess. And then it’s this very, very tedious way of making yourself learn the line."
He then admitted that while he’s “taking all the magic away” by revealing the technique, the method, in reality, helps him “learn text really quickly” in a “scramble.”
The ‘Narcos’ star continued, “It isn’t even sort of artistic, it really is this technical way that I’ve had to acquire because of that horrible experience of forgetting your lines.”
Pascal not only revealed his method of learning his lines but also opened up about his past struggles in remembering his lines.
He recounted a time when he completely failed to remember the lines on stage while performing a Shakespearean play.
Pascal added, “I remember it absolutely evaporated. It just evaporated,” before adding, “And then you go through this, sort of, a moment of slow motion in front of the audience and you’re like, ‘It’s gonna come, it’s not coming, it’s not gonna come.’ And then I remember, and I just went, ‘Whatever.’”
As the other actors broke into laughter, Pascal added, “There wasn’t anything to say!”

"Ofc film and theater are different in many ways, but as someone who’s been in many theatrical productions, I can confirm I’ve worked with other thespians who have memorized lines with similar methods. I have lots of respect and admiration that similar techniques are used in film," said someone else.
