ROME, GEORGIA: Former President Donald Trump went into a tirade over filing a $91 million bond to appeal the $83.3 million verdict in the defamation case brought by writer E Jean Carroll, reported Mediaite.

Addressing his supporters at a 'Get Out the Vote' rally in Rome, Georgia, on Saturday, March 9, the White House hopeful complained about his $83.3 million penalty after losing the defamation suit in January.

On March 8, Trump posted a bond of $91.6 million after Judge Lewis Kaplan denied his request to delay the enforcement, leaving him with a March 11 deadline to either pay the penalty or file the bond.

Federal Insurance Company, an arm of Chubb Insurance Company, provided the amount. The bond also prevents Carroll from collecting the fine as it prevails while the ex-president appeals to the Manhattan federal court's ruling.

Donald Trump denies accusations against him

Trump doubled down on his denial of the sexual assault accusations against him brought by Carroll.

"Sometimes it's not good to be rich. I just posted a $91 million bond, 91 million, on a fake story. Totally made-up story. Think of it. Ninety-one million. I could say things about what it would cost normally," the former president said to his supporters in Georgia.

E. Jean Carroll arrives at Manhattan federal court in New York as her defamation suit against Donald Trump continues on January 26, 2024 in New York City. Lawyers for both parties are expected to make their final statements today before a jury decides on a financial penalty. Contradicting his false claims, a New York jury last year found him liable for sexually abusing the longtime advice columnist in the 1990s.

"Ninety-one million, based on false accusations made about me by a woman that I knew nothing about. Didn't know, never heard of. I know nothing about her. She wrote a book, she said things. And when I denied it, I said, it's so crazy. It's false. I got sued for defamation. That's where it starts," the ex-president continued his rant.

Apart from the $83.3 million Carroll won for defamation damages from Trump for denying her sexual assault allegations, she was also awarded another $5 million in 2023 in a similar case.

The Carroll case penalty is only a fraction of Trump's mounting legal expenses. He owes over $450 million in penalty and interest in the New York civil fraud case filed by Attorney General Letitia James.

Internet labels Donald Trump a 'fool'

Netizens criticized Trump for continuing with his false claims in the case despite being hit by two penalties.

One user remarked, "Such a whiner and i hope she hits him again!"

"I hope she sues him again. He has no self control. He hasn’t learned anything," another person said, and a third one added, "He's such a fool."

A fourth response read, "He won't learn he's incapable of keeping his mouth shut."

"When he lost the first defamation suit, he had to pay Carroll $5M. When he lied about her again, the court awarded her $84M, expecting that will shut him. But no, he can't stop lying about her. So will the new penalty be double $84M? He's a complete fool," another outraged individual wrote.
