NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: President Joe Biden tweeted his resolve to make affluent Americans pay their fair share of taxes on March 10. This is in line with his economic plan for the country moving forward, as he had shared during his State of the Union address.

In his speech on March 7, Biden opened up about his plans to reshape the tax system to lower costs for Americans, according to CNBC.

“I inherited an economy that was on the brink. Now our economy is literally the envy of the world,” he stated, claiming, "The way to make the tax code fair is to make big corporations and the very wealthy finally pay their share. A fair tax code is how we invest in the things that make this country great. Health care, education, defense and so much more.”

The reforms called for by the President included a 25% minimum tax on unrealized income for households with a net worth over $100 million, as well as cancellation of tax breaks for executive pay above $1 million and tax code provisions that benefit large pharmaceutical and oil companies and the owners of private jets.

Joe Biden's tweets

Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Biden posted a couple of tweets on the subject.

"It’s time billionaires pay their fair share," he wrote in the first one, followed by his quote, "No billionaire should pay a lower federal tax rate than a teacher, a sanitation worker, or a nurse."

The incumbent's second tweet took on his predecessor, stating, "Trump’s $2 trillion tax cut overwhelmingly helped the wealthy, but not the vast majority of the American people. Republicans may not like it, but I will make sure the wealthy pay their fair share."

Internet reacts to Joe Biden's tweets

Netizens mocked Joe Biden for his stance and called out his son Hunter Biden who has been indicted for tax charges himself, as the following tweets demonstrate.

"I think a majority of Americans would prefer Trump’s economy over yours any day of the week," stated a user.

"Has Joe Biden’s son Hunter paid his fair share of taxes? Of course not. Biden just wants us to follow the rules. But his family doesn’t have to. They’re above the law," wrote another.

"Your son is literally under federal indictment for failure to pay millions in taxes for transactions you are likely implicated in yourself. Talk about tone deaf. Read the room, Joe," echoed a third.

"How much of other peoples' money does the government deserve?" jibed a fourth.

"Lucky for you, laundered money is tax free," chided a fifth.
