Holly Madison reflects on how Zak Bagans accepted her autism diagnosis

Holly Madison and Zak Bagans' love story began in May 2019, but their relationship hit a rough patch, leading to a breakup nearly two years later.

The couple found their way back to each other in 2023, seemingly stronger than before.

In 2024, Madison opened up about how her autism diagnosis helped her gain clarity in her relationships, particularly with Bagans.

“I'm so glad I got that diagnosis because I can recognize how I operate the way I do, why I operate the way I do, how I relate to people," she told People.

"I feel like it’s helped my social skills just knowing that," she said at the time.

Despite the challenges, she described Bagans as someone who had always understood and accepted her.

"I’m lucky enough to be dating somebody who just has always kind of understood me and accepts me for who I am, so getting the diagnosis wasn't super shocking to him," she continued.

"I am lucky that I haven’t had a ton of trouble in recent relationships as far as feeling an intimate emotional connection with somebody," Madison added.

Holly Madison’s past relationships

Before her relationship with Zak Bagans, Holly Madison was married to Pasquale Rotella.

The former couple, who split in 2018, have two children together—daughter Rainbow, 12, and son Forest, 8.

Madison's most high-profile relationship was with Hugh Hefner, whom she dated from 2001 to 2008.

Over the years, she has been vocal about the emotional abuse she allegedly endured during their time together.

Madison waited years before addressing it following Hefner’s death in 2017.

In a 2023 interview with People, she admitted to feeling no emotional attachment to him at the time of his death.

“When he passed away, everybody expected me to have some big reaction or post about it on social media, and it just felt weird. I didn't have any emotional attachment to him anymore in any way,” she told the outlet.

"Not relief at all, because I felt like I had taken myself kind of out of that universe pretty solidly. But it was a really odd time," she explained.

"For me, after leaving that relationship, I kind of felt like he had always interacted with me in such a fake way. Because every interaction he had with me was all about control or this fantasy he had of a relationship. It almost felt like playing house in a way," she added.
