Hugh Hefner’s widow Crystal Hefner reveals Playboy founder’s last words in her memoir
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Crystal Hefner has disclosed the final words of her late husband and Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, years after he died in 2017.
The model noted in her new book — ‘Only Say Good Things: Surviving Playboy and Finding Myself’ — released on January 23 that the late magazine publisher said, “I’m OK,” while being injected with antibiotics via an IV, The New York Post reported.
Hugh Hefner was 91 when he died
It was reported earlier that Hugh battled an “aggressive” E. coli infection which was “highly resistant to antibiotics and difficult to treat” before his death at 91 years on September 27, 2017.
The latest revelation came as Crystal shared more intimate details about her time with the Playboy founder at his infamous mansion.
The 37-year-old was married to Hugh for five years.
Crystal Hefner earlier said living with Hugh Hefner came with ‘a price’
She reportedly said, “I thought, wow, if I just like everything that he likes and do all the things that he wants me to do, then I'm the favorite. And I was, but I just lost myself in the process.”
“I realized I was dealing with a really big power imbalance. It seemed like a world of success and fantasy, but everyone's having to sleep with an 80-year-old. There's a price. Everything has a price,” Crystal asserted.
The third wife of the sex icon also spilled that Hugh shared his opinions on "weird, silly, stupid things."

She said, “Our nail polish couldn’t be anything but some neutral color, no French manicure.”
The late editor-in-chief of Playboy also advised her to not “have a belly button ring because that’s trashy,” and asked her to color her dark natural brown hair.
“So I’d have to go bleach it and it would burn my scalp and I’d have blisters. But for some reason, I thought this was all normal and that’s what it meant to be seen as beautiful in Hef’s eyes,” Crystal added.
Crystal Hefner’s book is about ‘healing from a toxic environment’
Besides, in July 2023, Crystal told The New York Post that she was only 21 when Hugh asked her to shift to the Playboy mansion.
She divulged, “It was very, very fast. I think he had a lot of experience with just moving people in right away. The ‘I love yous’ started pretty quick. I’ve learned all about love bombing since then.”

At the time, she also mentioned the reason she chose ‘Only Say Good Things’ as her book’s name.
Crystal stated, “It’s called ‘Only Say Good Things’ because I [had] a conversation with Hef and he let me know: ‘Once I go, when I’m gone, please only say good things about me.’”
“I kept that promise for the last five years. After going through a lot of therapy and healing, I realized that I needed to be honest about my time there. The book is about healing from a toxic environment,” she noted.
