House Oversight probes Ilhan Omar over explosive $30M wealth jump: 'There's no way this adds up'
WASHINGTON, DC: The House Oversight Committee has opened an investigation into Ilhan Omar after newly filed financial disclosures revealed a dramatic spike in her net worth, raising questions about how she and her husband amassed millions in a short period of time.

The House Oversight Committee, chaired by James Comer, is reviewing Omar’s 2024 financial disclosure, which showed her family’s wealth ballooning from near-zero valuations to figures that could reach as high as $30 million in roughly one year.
GOP probes Ilhan Omar’s sudden wealth surge
James Comer, chair of the House Oversight Committee, told the New York Post that the rapid rise in the wealth of Ilhan Omar’s husband defies logic.
“I’m a money guy,” he said. “There’s no way this adds up.”
Comer said committee attorneys are assessing whether subpoenas will be necessary as lawmakers seek explanations for what he described as an implausible overnight rise. Much of the investigation is focused on Rose Lake Capital LLC, an investment firm founded in 2022 by Omar’s husband, political consultant Tim Mynett, and his business partner, Will Hailer.
In 2023, Omar reported that the company’s value was between $1 and $1,000. However, in her 2024 disclosure, Rose Lake Capital was listed with a valuation ranging from $5 million to $25 million.
Another red flag raised by investigators involves ESTCRU LLC, a California-based winery that first appeared on Omar’s financial disclosures in 2020. The winery was valued at $15,000 to $50,000 in 2023, but by 2024 its estimated worth had jumped to between $1 million and $5 million.
Ilhan Omar's previous claim
Ilhan Omar told her social media followers last February to “try checking public financial statements and you will see I barely have thousands, let alone millions”.
Omar strongly pushed back against the allegations, insisting she is not a millionaire.
👋🏽 dummy, first of all I haven’t been in Congress for 8yrs and my net worth isn’t $83 million dollars. I know your brain has rotten from the conspiracy theories you are consuming daily but try not to announce your stupidity to the world.

In an earlier post on X, Omar wrote, “My salary is $174,000 before taxes, I don't have stock or own a home and still paying off my student debt.”
Trump targets Ilhan Omar amid GOP probe
Donald Trump weighed in on Tuesday, blasting Ilhan Omar during remarks from the White House and labeling her “crooked” as Republicans advanced their inquiry.
Trump linked the lawmaker to what he described as a broader Minnesota fraud scandal, claiming large sums of taxpayer money had gone missing. “Nobody talks about the fact that $19 billion, at a minimum, is missing in Minnesota,” Trump said.

He went on to criticize Somalia, claiming the country lacks the basic elements of a functioning state. Trump argued that Somalia has no real government or economic foundation, calling it one of the worst nations in the world by his assessment.
Trump further complained that immigrants from Somalia arrive in the United States and become financially successful despite, in his words, not holding traditional jobs.
