LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Hunter Biden is attempting to have information about his alleged unlawful overseas business dealings and possible lobbying of US authorities on behalf of foreign principals excluded from his upcoming tax trial, according to a court file submitted by his legal team on Sunday, August 11.

Attorneys for the president’s son accused special counsel David Weiss in the motion of “seeking to insinuate extraneous, politically-charged matters into the trial which have no relevance to the tax offenses Mr Biden is accused of,” the filing in US District Court for the Central District of California shows.

Hayes in 1878. (Photo by Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images)

What did Hunter Biden's attorneys write to the judge?

“The Court should not allow a side show in which issues far beyond the charges have to be explained and litigated in a tax case,” the attorneys wrote to Los Angeles Judge Mark Scarsi, calling the evidence “irrelevant” and “politically-charged.” “Disallowing this unnecessary detour will ensure that Mr Biden, like any other person accused, gets the fair trial that he deserves,” they argued.

David Weiss introduced evidence of the alleged wrongdoing in a filing

In a filing last Wednesday, August 7, David Weiss presented evidence of the alleged misconduct, including how Hunter Biden and two of his partners, Rob Walker and James Gilliar, came to an agreement to hide their commercial ties with a Romanian real estate tycoon.

The three were supposedly giving "management services" to the oligarch Gabriel Popoviciu, according to the agreement, but in reality, they were trying to get US government agencies to block a Romanian probe into the tycoon's real estate company.

Walker, who testified before a grand jury about the document, had “structured [the] business relationship in an effort to avoid having to register as a foreign agent,” according to Weiss’ Wednesday filing, which noted that Hunter and “his business partners did reach out to government officials, specifically the United States Department of State.”

Hunter Biden's legal team disagreed with Rob Walker’s testimony in their filing

However, in their brief on Sunday, August 11, Hunter's legal team, headed by powerful white-collar criminal defense lawyer Abbe Lowell, disapproved of the special counsel's interpretation of Walker's testimony, describing it as "inflammatory and incomplete, and therefore misleading."

“While the Special Counsel later mentions in its response that [Walker] has not said that Mr. Biden (or he) engaged in improper political influence (and therefore claims there is no risk of confusion of the issues or misleading the jury),” the filing states, adding “the whole of the Special Counsel’s filing and its characterization of [Walker]’s grand jury testimony gives the contrary impression, as was widely reported by the mainstream media.”

Attorneys say allegations of improper political influence were not included in David Weiss’ indictment

The attorneys further noted that allegations of improper political influence were not included in David Weiss’ December indictment of the 54-year-old first son, and that this “change of tactic merely echoes the baseless and false allegations of foreign wrongdoing which have been touted by House Republicans to use Mr Biden’s proper business activities in Romania and elsewhere to attack him and his father.”

Bank records discovered by the House Oversight Committee last year indicate that Walker's LLC got $3 million from Popoviciu's company Bladon Enterprises between November 2015 and May 2017. The House Oversight Committee is one of three investigative bodies looking into President Joe Biden's impeachment, according to New York Post.

The Oversight Committee also discovered that at least $1 million of the overseas payments went to nine members of the Biden family, including Hunter and his sister-in-law who had converted into a girlfriend, Hallie Biden, who is testifying for the prosecution in the September tax trial.

Internet says 'walls are closing in on' Hunter Biden

Netizens mocked Hunter Biden for trying to have information about his alleged unlawful overseas business dealings removed from his upcoming tax trial. One X user tweeted, "Walls are closing in on crackhead Hunter." Another added, "LOL, of course he does. I would too if I were him. Can't blame him for trying."

"That’s weird. I thought there was no evidence of these foreign bureaus and FARA violations. Are you telling me that……no, it can’t be," remarked one. Someone else said, "What difference does it make, Daddy Joe is going to pardon him for everything he has ever done."
