'I didn't know I was that powerful': Joe Biden denies that he is 'pulling the strings' in Donald Trump's prosecution

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: President Joe Biden dismissed the notion that he was responsible for the conviction of former President Donald Trump in the criminal hush money trial while speaking with Fox News reporter Peter Doocy on Friday, May 31.

Trump was unanimously found guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records by a 12-member New York jury on the previous day. It was a historic moment as the presumptive GOP nominee became the first former POTUS to be convicted of any crime.

Trump faces penalties including fines and up to four years in prison on each count. His sentencing is scheduled for July 11, four days before the Republican National Convention.

He and his supporters have long attempted to portray the trial as the politicization and weaponization of the judicial system by the Biden administration and the Democrats, aimed at gaining political advantage ahead of the November general election.

Joe Biden's interaction with Peter Doocy

Doocy interacted with Biden outside the White House, when the incumbent said, "I have no idea," when asked if he believed Trump's conviction would help him in the upcoming election.

"Are you worried this could happen to you someday? Somebody comes up with some charges and tries to bring you into court after your term?" inquired the reporter, to which Biden replied, "Not at all. I didn't do anything wrong. The system still works."

"He (Trump) thinks you're pulling the strings behind the scenes doing all of this to help yourself," mentioned Doocy, trying to continue the conversation. Biden responded with a joke, saying, "I didn't know I was that powerful."

In his earlier remarks on the conviction of his political rival, Biden had reportedly stated, "The American principle that no one is above the law was reaffirmed."

"It’s reckless, it’s dangerous and it’s irresponsible for anyone to say this was ‘rigged’ just because they don’t like the verdict. Our justice system has endured for nearly 250 years, and it literally is a cornerstone of America. Our justice system. The justice system should be respected, and we should never allow anyone to tear it down. It’s as simple as that," he noted.



 

Internet calls out Joe Biden over his comments

"Not powerful. EVIL and CORRUPT," wrote a user over the social media platform X responding to Biden's remarks.



 

"Bro held a campaign event in front of the courthouse," jibed another, referring to the press conference held by actor Robert De Niro outside the Manhattan Criminal Court on May 28.



 

"Well you are the big guy," chided a user.



 

"He is wasting time because Trump will still beat him in the elections," quipped a user.



 

"He doesn’t know he’s president Ha!" mocked another user.
