NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to take on Hollywood legend Robert De Niro, as the latter reportedly lost his cool with MAGA supporters on the streets of New York on Tuesday, May 28.

De Niro showed up along with the Biden campaign outside the city courtroom where Donald Trump was undergoing the criminal hush money trial at the time, to drive the attention of the large gathering of press personnel to the upcoming election.

According to AP News, the actor told reporters, "I don’t mean to scare you. No, wait, maybe I do mean to scare you. If Trump returns to the White House, you can kiss these freedoms goodbye that we all take for granted.”

He went on to slam the presumptive GOP nominee, stating, "We New Yorkers used to tolerate him when he was just another crappy real estate hustler masquerading as a big shot. I love this city. I don’t want to destroy it. Donald Trump wants to destroy not only the city but the country, and, eventually, he could destroy the world.”

MAGA supporters who were gathered on the streets in support of Trump hit back at the actor for his criticisms, which led to a fiery exchange between the two sides.

Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene's tweet

The US Representative from Georgia retweeted a clip over X which showed De Niro having a meltdown and calling MAGA supporters "gangsters" as they called him a "washed up" actor.

As he is seen to be escorted away from the scene, a person sporting a MAGA hat is seen hurtling expletives at him, calling him a "nobody" and "trash."

"Actor Robert De Niro in NY attacking Trump supporters and screaming the same lies about Trump from 2016 that have all been proven to be false," wrote Greene in her post.

"Guy in MAGA hat tells De Niro he’s 'washed up.' De Niro doesn’t seem to care that half the country watches movies and will stop," she added as a warning.

Internet backs Robert De Niro against Marjorie Taylor Greene

"Robert De Niro’s speech was brutal and 100% accurate," wrote a user on X, responding to Greene's tweet.

"You are as dumb as you are badly built," stated another slamming the Congresswoman.

"Bahahaha. We won't stop watching Robert De Niro movies but we will vote Trump out," jibed a third.

"MAGA is losing it over De Niro's speech, hilarious," commented a fourth user.

"You are the big lie and De Niro knows what he is talking about. He did not have a meltdown. You are the meltdown," slammed a fifth.
