MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA: Ilhan Omar joined protesters outside an ICE facility in Minneapolis on Saturday, January 10, as demonstrations continued over the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent. The protest did not go as smoothly as she might have expected.

A video circulating online shows Omar participating in the protest, but her expression appears tense and uneasy, especially when some demonstrators criticized Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Her discomfort was clearly visible as she stood with the crowd, facing federal agents at the site.

The protests are part of a growing public outcry over Good’s death and have drawn attention to broader concerns about federal immigration enforcement.

Ilhan Omar looks visibly uncomfortable during chants against Tim Walz and Jacob Frey

In the viral video, Omar appears visibly uncomfortable as a woman loudly blasts Mayor Jacob Frey and Governor Tim Walz during an anti-ICE protest in Minneapolis.

Her facial expression and uneasy body language made the clip stand out online amid demonstrations following the fatal shooting of Good by an ICE agent. She was standing in a small group alongside other women protesters when what began as a protest turned awkward for her.

One woman began intensely criticizing Frey and Walz. Then the chant, “El pueblo presidente” (The people are the president), echoed through the crowd, and Omar is seen repeating it, but without the enthusiasm typically expected during a protest.

In the footage, the woman next to her can be heard shouting, "Walz, grow some b*lls." Then she screams, "So to Jacob Frey... We say F*** you." Those sharp comments appeared to add to Omar’s visible discomfort as she stood beside her.

Ilhan Omar joined protesters in facing federal agents at an ICE facility

The Minnesota congresswoman joined other lawmakers and activists outside the ICE processing center at the Whipple Building in Minneapolis. She was accompanied by Reps Angie Craig and Kelly Morrison, as well as a group of photographers and local demonstrators.

“Shortly after we were let in, two officials came in and said they received a message that we were no longer allowed to be in the building and that they were rescinding our invitation and denying any further access to the building,” Omar told The Star Tribune.

After being turned away, Omar emphasized the importance of oversight. On X (formerly Twitter), she wrote, “Members of Congress have a legal right and constitutional responsibility to conduct oversight where people are being detained. The public deserves to know what is taking place in ICE facilities.”

Good was shot and killed by an ICE agent on Wednesday. The 37-year-old was in her SUV when the agent opened fire; officials say it was self‑defense, but many dispute that account.

Her death sparked protests across Minnesota, with demonstrators demanding accountability and changes to ICE practices.
