LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Actor Seth Rogen shared unbelievable real-life stories alongside actress Olivia Wilde during the latest round of Entertainment Weekly's 'Lie vs Lie' on Wednesday, July 1, prompting plenty of laughter.
While promoting their upcoming movie 'The Invite,' Rogen reflected on an unexpected encounter with Sean 'Diddy' Combs, an awkward exchange with Pharrell Williams, and what he believes makes a long-lasting relationship.
Seth Rogen recalls Sean 'Diddy' Combs invitation
During the game, Rogen was asked to reveal the "most surprising proposition" he had ever received. Prefacing the story by saying, "I'm glad I didn't do this," Rogen recalled that many years ago, he and his wife were dining at The French Laundry when Diddy was seated at the neighboring table.
According to him, Diddy walked over and asked, "What are you guys doing tomorrow morning?" Rogen said they replied that they were in the area "scouting wedding locations."
Diddy then surprised them by asking, "Well, if you have time, would you like to come hot air ballooning with me?"
Rogen confirmed the story was true and said he replied "no," declining the invitation. Looking back, he joked, "The last thing I need in the world is a photo of me on a hot air balloon alone with Puff Daddy, waving and smiling and holding glasses of rose."
Elsewhere in the game, Wilde shared a Thanksgiving memory in which her dog, Paco, jumped onto the dining table and ate the freshly cooked turkey prepared for guests.
Rogen immediately called the story a lie, prompting Wilde to insist, "This is true! It's true, Paco stood on the table and ate the turkey."
Rogen replied that the incident "reeks a bit of '90s kids movie." He also recounted an uncomfortable interaction with singer Pharrell Williams that stemmed from interviews promoting the live-action remake of 'The Lion King.'
According to Rogen, Pharrell later confronted him, saying, "Hey, I don't like how you suggest that I got frustrated with your singing." Rogen replied, "You did," but Pharrell responded, "I don't like you suggesting that I feel frustration," prompting Rogen to end the exchange by saying, "You're doing it right now."
Seth Rogen discusses healthy relationships
During the Cannes Film Festival last month, Rogen spoke about 'The Invite,' which centers on two married couples, with him playing Joe, a man who is unhappy in his marriage.
He said the film explores what defines good and bad relationships, adding that the cast's personal experiences shaped those ideas.
Rogen said he felt he could confidently describe what a healthy relationship looks like because of his own marriage.
"It's a couple who is nice to each other, who loves each other and who goes out of their way to excuse the other person rather than to find things that they hate about the other person," he said.
Journalist Lulu Garcia-Navarro also referred to an earlier interview in which Rogen had spoken about his wife, Lauren Miller Rogen, encouraging his playful and often risky behavior. Rogen joked that while she likes him being "full Seth," there are moments when she tells him it may be "too much Seth."
He added that many of the dynamics between his character and Rose Byrne's character in the 'Neighbors' films were inspired by conversations with Lauren. "She's not the naggy woman who's trying to shut down the fun. Me and her love doing the same stuff, and if anything, she's encouraging it," he said.
Alongside the qualities he had already listed, Rogen concluded that, for him, a lasting marriage ultimately "comes down to caring and tenderness."
