'I'm just a weird dude': Terry Crews tells Jimmy Kimmel how he stays in shape at 55
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a recent appearance on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live', Terry Crews, former NFL player, actor, and host of 'AGT Fantasy League', shared insights into his unique approach to fitness and maintaining peak physical condition at the age of fifty-five.
Known for his larger-than-life personality and impressive physique, Crews revealed that his commitment to staying fit goes beyond the gym – it's a lifestyle that he has crafted to serve both his physical and mental well-being.
The solid embrace
As Terry Crews and Jimmy Kimmel embraced on stage, the audience got a taste of the sheer physical presence that the actor exudes.
Describing the embrace, Crews humorously compared it to feeling like someone had put a bunch of bowling balls in an outfit. The interaction set the tone for a conversation that delved into Crews' fitness routine and his unique perspective on staying in shape.
The spa time workout
Crews opened up about his daily workout routine, referring to it as his "spa time." He expressed the importance of his two-hour workout sessions, not just as a means to stay in shape, but as a form of relaxation and escape.
"It's where I get away from the kids. I am totally in my peace; it's my Fortress of Solitude," Crews explained.
Creating a home gym
Adapting to the challenges posed by the pandemic, Crews shared that he transformed a part of his home into a gym.
"I have, you know, and when the pandemic happened, I created this whole home gym. I used to like to go to the gym, the whole thing, but now I'm all by myself. I love this. I put music, audio books, the whole thing," said Crews.
Treating the body like a prime sports car
Crews humorously described his mindset towards fitness saying, "I've learned to treat my body like it's a prime sports car."
He approaches his workout sessions with the meticulousness of a mechanic tinkering on a valuable vehicle, always striving for improvement.
"I can get this better, I can get that better. I'm 55, man. 55 years old. Yes, you don't have to give it up, you know what I mean? That's what I realize."
Discipline and early bedtime
Revealing his disciplined lifestyle, Crews shared that he goes to bed at an early hour.
"I go to bed at 8.30, 8.30 at night," he revealed.
Despite the jests from his wife about being in fourth grade, Crews emphasized the importance of rising early to kickstart his day. Waking up at 4.30 or 5 am, he hits the gym, completing four hours of exercise before most people start their day.
"It's funny, my wife always says, 'What, are you in fourth grade?' I'm like, 'Yeah, yes.' But I wake up at like 4.30 am, 5 am to get in that gym, and I'm in there doing my thing. I've done four hours of great stuff before the day starts, you know what I'm saying?"
Acknowledging his unconventional habits, Crews playfully stated, "I'm just a weird dude."
