Gwyneth Paltrow reveals why Brad Falchuk thinks she is a Republican
During the episode, Stephens spoke about the need for constructive dialogue despite political differences, saying that the country has become increasingly divided. Paltrow agreed and referenced conversations she has with her husband, whom she married in 2018.
She said, “My husband is the best person ever in the world. He's very, very progressive, and he's such a compassionate person and he wants everybody to be okay.”
Paltrow went on to explain that political discussions have become difficult because many people are unwilling to consider perspectives outside their own.
“I think now it's become impossible because people are either very, very one side or very, very the other side,” Paltrow said.
Paltrow added that she often encourages Falchuk to hear opinions outside of his usual political perspective.
“I always say to him, 'You have to hear somebody else's point of view.'”
The actress then revealed that her husband has incorrectly categorized her political affiliation.
“My husband thinks I'm a Republican, which I'm absolutely not,” she said, explaining that she sees herself as politically centrist rather than aligned with either major party.
Gwyneth Paltrow explains her independent political outlook
As the conversation continued, Paltrow expanded on how she currently views her political identity and emphasized that she does not feel connected to any party.
“I don't identify with a political party right now,” she said. “I feel completely an independent.”
She explained that she makes a conscious effort to understand people whose beliefs differ from her own.
“I’m trying to stay curious and understand all sides and not get angry and not be fearful and not project certainty where it's not warranted."
The actress also recalled a recent trip to Nashville with Falchuk, where they attended a bluegrass performance. During the show, a young musician shared views that differed significantly from those held by her husband.
Reflecting on the experience, Paltrow said, “This kid was saying things that my husband would completely disagree with.”
Rather than focusing on the political differences, she found herself appreciating the humanity of the performer.
“I was looking at this kid and I was like, He's a good person. He's a good kid. We don't have to agree on everything,” she said.
The experience reinforced her belief in listening to people with different viewpoints and resisting the tendency to divide individuals solely by political labels.
Gwyneth Paltrow praises Brad Falchuk for his support
Paltrow has previously spoken about her admiration for Falchuk. While accepting the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award at The Hollywood Reporter's Women in Entertainment gala in December 2025, she described him as “the most feminist man I know” and thanked him for the support he has shown throughout their relationship.
