WASHINGTON, DC: Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa) did not hold back from criticizing former Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday, July 10, after the latter passed on the opportunity to expressly state her support for President Joe Biden during an appearance on MSNBC show 'Morning Joe.'

Since Biden's abysmal performance at the June 27 presidential debate against presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump, many Democrats have voiced their concern with the incumbent's mental acuity to face his rival as well as stay in office for a second term.

On Wednesday, Sen Peter Welch (D-Vt) wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post asking Biden to drop his reelection effort "for the good of the country," while Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) hinted that he was open to a ticket without Biden on it, reported Mediaite.

Nancy Pelosi's stance on Joe Biden's candidacy

When asked if Biden enjoyed her support to be at the head of the Democratic ticket, Pelosi stated, "It’s up to the president to decide if he is going to run. We’re all encouraging him to make that decision because time is running short."

"I think overwhelming support of the caucus — it’s not for me to say, I’m not the head of the caucus anymore — but, he’s beloved, he is respected, and people want him to make that decision,” she continued.

The 'Morning Joe' anchor noted that President Biden has vehemently insisted on staying in the race, to which Pelosi replied, "I want him to do whatever he decides to do. And that’s the way it is. Whatever he decides, we go with. I think it’s really important and I would hope everyone would join in.”

According to Mediaite, Pelosi later in the day brushed off claims of her suggesting Biden bow out of the race as unfounded.

John Fetterman's comments on Nancy Pelosi

During his appearance on the CNN show 'OutFront' on the same day, when Fetterman was inquired about his take on Pelosi's statement, he said, "As far as I know, she’s never run for any office outside of the House and she’s never run for the president and she certainly never won that as well."

"And, you know, he has already made his decision. Joe Biden has made that decision," continued the Senator. "He is staying in this race and he’s gonna take this through to the convention and to November and I’m going to back him on that."

The senator's comments led to varied responses from netizens on the Mediaite website, as the following examples demonstrate.

"Democrats are so screwed and they deserve all the damage they get," wrote a person.

"I got to hand it to these Democrats. They are really trying to keep their chin up," shared another.

"Difference of opinions in the Democratic party as opposed to the republican sheep following their convicted felon Trump," pointed out a third.

"How much longer are democrats gonna be messing (read colorful language) around like this?" inquired a fourth.

"Democrats need to decide fast because the window is closing!" exclaimed a fifth.
