PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Donald Trump Jr claimed his father, former President Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again" movement has completely taken over the Republican Party.

During his appearance on Newsmax's 'The Balance' on Saturday, March 9, the former first son addressed the exit of anti-Trump Republican lawmakers, including Sen Mitt Romney from Utah, who will not be running for reelection in November, the New York Post.

"People have to understand that America First, the MAGA movement is the new Republican Party. That is conservatism today," said Trump Jr, adding, "You know, there may be the Mitt Romneys and the Liz Cheneys out there. But that is a rare and dying breed."

Both Romney and Cheney have been highly critical of Trump, with the latter explicitly stating she would not vote for the ex-president in the November general election.

Donald Trump Jr on RNC's new leadership

Trump Jr lauded the shakeup at the Republican National Committee as Michael Whatley and his sister-in-law Lara Trump, backed by his father, took over the leadership from former Chairwoman Ronna McDaniels.

RNC voted for the major leadership change on March 8 by selecting the staunch allies of the former president to head the committee ahead of Trump's official nomination as the presidential candidate for a rematch with President Joe Biden in November.

"I think the RNC is gonna be a little bit more of that old-school establishment. That Republican Party frankly no longer exists outside of the DC Beltway. But it takes a little while to make that transition," noted Trump Jr.

He also emphasized that the RNC should "focus on all the candidates," not solely on his father, continuing, "It's not just about the presidency. We got a lot of members of Congress that have to win. I think the biggest thing is we got to get faith back in that institution. People have to trust it. Hopefully, that's what this does."

Hoping to defeat Biden in November, the ex-POTUS is also working towards bringing together a solid support base in Congress by endorsing prominent MAGA allies, including Rep Lauren Borbert and Rep Nancy Mace, for their congressional reelection.

The elections to the 435 House seats and 34 Senate seats will take place simultaneously with the presidential election on November 5.

In a recent rally in Virginia, the former president also hinted at the MAGA taking over the GOP, claiming the movement represented "96%, and maybe 100%" of the party. These remarks received intense criticism from former RNC chair Michael Steele, who labeled Trump the "biggest RINO."

Furthermore, President Biden acknowledged the increasing MAGA influence when he announced the 2024 race is "going to be us vs the entire MAGA" as he kicked off the general election race after the Super Tuesday primaries.

Trump is only short of less than 200 delegates to cross the threshold to become the official GOP nominee after Nikki Haley exited the race on March 6.

Internet reacts to Donald Trump Jr's remarks over the supposed complete MAGA takeover of the GOP

One wrote, "it truly sounds dictatorial," and another remarked, "WHY am I being forced to agree with this guy?! We are living in bizzarro world."

"We will never be rid of trumps, once the big one is gone, the spawn will be jockeying to take over his spot in politics, god help us all," added an individual.

A person expressed, "They are 'Trump MAGA' whatever the hell that means. Actually, what it means is: 'People who bow the knee to whatever Trump wants.' Not me. I'm out."

"Fascism 101. We have taken over a traditional political party & replaced it with a new model of retribution. And it happened on live TV," noted someone else.
