NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney declared she would not vote for Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election, citing her concerns of him 'torching the Constitution'

In her highly anticipated debut interview on 'The View,' the former Wyoming lawmaker faced a "radical question" from panelist Joy Behar. She was asked whom she would vote for in a potential Biden-Trump rematch.

"I'm not going to endorse anybody today," she said.

The outspoken Trump critic added, "I think that, again, we don't know exactly what the choice will be. I would say that I will never vote for Donald Trump."

Though the former president has a sizeable dominance in the opinion polls among his GOP rival candidates, the ongoing legal troubles, including his immunity claims and disqualification from the Colorado and Maine ballot, had put him in a difficult spot.

However, anticipations are high for a possible Biden-Trump rematch in November.

'We cannot survive torching the Constitution'

Cheney had an explanation for not voting for the GOP frontrunner. She stated that some conservatives were trying to claim that Biden was a "bigger risk" than Trump.

"My view is, I disagree with a lot of Joe Biden's policies. We can survive bad policies. We cannot survive torching the Constitution. It's not even the same level."

Cheney's statement comes amid a rising criticism of Trump's campaign speeches, where he has explicitly stated his admiration towards authoritarian rulers like China's Xi Jinping.

Many of his former aides also spoke against the possibility of a second Trump term, citing him as a "threat to democracy."

Internet praises Liz Cheney's decision

Netizens applauded Cheney for upholding the rule of law by refusing to vote for Trump in the upcoming presidential elections.
