CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA: Former President Donald Trump has officially endorsed Rep Nancy Mace's re-election bid for Congress, reported The Hill.

The White House hopeful announced his endorsement through Truth Social on Saturday, March 9, writing, "It is my great honor to Endorse a Strong Conservative Voice for South Carolina's 1st Congressional District."

Mace is seeking re-election in her current seat, which she has held since 2020. Interestingly, her 2022 race was backed by former GOP presidential contender Nikki Haley, while Trump supported her opponent, Katie Arrington.

However, over the years, Mace has completely shifted her support to the ex-president and endorsed his 2024 presidential race, leaving behind the former South Carolina governor.

Donald Trump praises Nancy Mace

Announcing his official backing to Mace's re-election run, Trump applauded her hard work behind his decisive primary victory in the Palmetto State.

"Nancy Mace worked hard campaigning across South Carolina in support of our Record-Breaking WIN," he wrote.

The former president defeated Haley in her home state, securing 59.8% votes to her 39.5% in February, as per CNN.

Trump also highlighted his staunch ally Mace's support for his causes in Congress. "In Congress, she is fighting to Secure the Border, Strengthen our Military, Support our Veterans, Uphold the Rule of Law, Stop Political Weaponization, and Protect and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment," he continued, declaring, "Congresswoman Nancy Mace has my Complete and Total Endorsement!"

Trump's endorsement came following Haley's exit from the presidential race, making him the potential presumptive GOP nominee.

Apart from Mace, other prominent South Carolina Republicans who have backed the ex-president's 2024 race include current Sen Tim Scott, who is speculated to be a top contender as his running mate, and current Gov Henry McMaster.

Trump, looking forward to a rematch with President Joe Biden, has endorsed several of his solid allies for their Congressional bid in an attempt to create a support base in Congress if he wins in November.

For instance, he recently supported Colorado lawmaker Lauren Boebert's run in the state's 4th congressional district.

Mace's primary challengers include her former chief of staff, Dan Hanlon, and former state agency official Catherine Templeton.

The election to the House of Representatives will be held simultaneously with the presidential election on November 5, 2024.

Internet ridicules the endorsement

The former president's endorsement of Congresswoman Mace's re-election received intense mockery from netizens who predicted her failure, citing Trump-supported candidates' history of defeats.
