ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA: Former President Donald Trump lauded Sen. Tim Scott as "the greatest surrogate" he has ever seen, amid speculation about Scott being a frontrunner for the ex-president's running mate in the upcoming presidential election, reported The Hill.

Addressing the crowd at a rally in Rock Hill, South Carolina, on Friday, February 23, the eve of the GOP primary, the leading Republican candidate remarked, "He ran, and he was OK," referring to Scott's 2024 presidential bid, which he ended in November 2023.

"He's a respected guy. But he ran and he did fine, and then when he got out he endorsed me and he's a surrogate. He's the greatest surrogate I've ever seen," the ex-President declared.

The Palmetto State's Senator endorsed Trump in January ahead of the New Hampshire primary.

Donald Trump labels Tim Scott 'a high-quality' person

Further into the speech, the former President praised Scott for his visible support in the ongoing presidential race.

"This guy went from modest, high-quality man, introducing his mother — who's incredible, by the way. … He's a much better representative for me than he is a representative for himself," Trump said. "And it's true. And that's a great compliment. And you know why? Because he's a high-quality person. He doesn't like talking about himself," he added.

On multiple occasions, the Senator has proved his support to the GOP frontrunner, who is closing in on the party nomination to potentially face President Joe Biden in November.

For instance, Scott defended Trump after his controversial threat to abandon delinquent NATO allies in the event of a Russian attack. Instead of criticizing the statement, he expressed his belief that the ex-president made the world "safer" during his presidency, as per The Hill.

Similarly, Scott urged Trump's sole GOP opponent, Nikki Haley, to drop out of the race "for the good of the nation."

Internet criticizes Donald Trump

Trump was hit with severe online backlash after calling Scott "the greatest surrogate." Netizens opined that the former President was a "sadist" for making the remarks.

One user wrote, "The oldest & ugliest trick in the book. Make others look bad to make yourself look good. Unfortunately, nothing Trump says or does will make him look good. The history is full of his failures."

"That's the only way this loser can feel superior. Because he KNOWS he's a loser," another person remarked.

A user added, "Sadist. He revels in it. Just look at Ted Cruz." Another individual said, "Trump in 6 months…’I never knew him, who is he?’"

"Well, he's a sadist," an individual opined.
