Internet backs Donald Trump as recent poll suggests he leads Joe Biden by 4% points among voters
WASHINGTON, DC: In a national survey conducted prior to the first 2024 televised presidential debate hosted by CNN on Thursday, June 27, former president Donald Trump leads president Joe Biden by four percentage points.
According to the most recent New York Times/Siena College poll, which was released on Wednesday, June 26, 48% of voters said they would support Republican candidate Donald Trump if the presidential election were to take place on the same day while 44% said they would support Democrat Joe Biden.
In comparison, a poll conducted in April by the New York Times and Siena College revealed that Trump was leading Biden by just 1%.
Majority of the people said there should be a different Democratic candidate
When asked if Biden should continue as the Democratic Party's nominee, 61% of respondents thought another Democratic nominee should be chosen while 33% disagreed. In contrast, 41% of respondents think Trump should stay in office while 54% think there should be a different Republican nominee.
According to the poll, 26% of Black voters are likely to vote for Trump in 2024. Even though 65% of likely Black voters said they would back Biden, Trump's success since 2020 marks a notable increase.
Only five percent of registered Black voters previously wanted to vote for Donald Trump
According to a 2020 New York Times/ Siena College poll conducted from June 17 to June 20, 79% of Black registered voters preferred Biden, while only five percent of Black voters said they would support Trump.
Remarkably, at the time, 68% of nationally registered voters expressed disapproval of Trump's handling of the riots and protests that followed the death of Minneapolis police officer George Floyd.
Net majority of 68% voters agree Joe Biden is too old
A recent survey of 1,226 registered voters nationwide—of whom 991 completed the entire survey—was carried out in both English and Spanish between June 20 and June 25, 2024, using both landline and mobile phones.
Participants were also questioned about whether they thought Trump or Biden was too old to be a successful president. A net majority of 68% agreed that Biden is too old compared to 39% who felt the same about Trump.
The poll, which was conducted after Trump was found guilty of a crime in the hush-money trial brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, revealed that only 11% of voters were more likely to support Trump following his conviction while just 19% were less likely to do so. The majority, 68%, said that Trump's conviction for using hush money had no bearing on their decision to support him, as per Fox News.
55% of voters agreed that Donald Trump shouldn't get a prison term in the hush money trial
In comparison to those who felt Trump was primarily charged because prosecutors thought he committed crimes, there was a two percentage point difference in respondents' agreement that the charges against him are primarily motivated by politics. Around 55% voters agreed that Trump shouldn't get a prison term in the hush money trial while 37% disagreed and thought he should remain in jail.
With the election day approaching in less than four months, this Thursday's debate presents both candidates with a unique opportunity to change the course of the contest.
Donald Trump and Joe Biden will share the same stage for the first time since 2020
Trump and Biden have not shared a platform or even spoken to one another since their last debate which took place a few weeks prior to the 2020 presidential election. Biden's inauguration was not even attended by Trump.
The earliest general election debate in history will take place on Thursday, June 27, on CNN. Both campaigns rejected the bipartisan Commission on Presidential Debates which had arranged every one since 1988. As a result, this is the first-ever televised general election presidential debate hosted by a single news outlet.
Internet sides with Donald Trump as the former president emerges as favorite in yet another poll
Netizens backed the former president as the new poll result states that Trump is leading Joe Biden by four percentage points. One X user tweeted, "With Biden as our leader, I’m seriously afraid of the United States being involved in WW3 in the near future. Very scary." Another echoed, "Trump all day way."
One user lashed at Biden, writing, "Everyone keeps saying there will be no fans allowed in the audience in tonight's debate. That's not true. Joe Biden will have two fans sitting up close: Dana Bash and Jake Tapper."
"Biden must look strong without being deranged. He has to be in command of facts without being condescending. He needs to look like a fighter but not a fascist. In other words he needs drugs," mocked another. "There’s a good chance that tonight’s debate moderators, opinion hosts - Tapper and bash- will run interference for Biden," cautioned a user.
