NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: On the June 26 episode of 'The Megyn Kelly Show', host Megyn Kelly criticized CNN host Kasie Hunt, calling her 'weak' after her emotional response to allegations of bias among the network's upcoming first presidential debate moderators, claiming she 'embarrassed womankind' with her public reaction.

Kelly's comments followed an incident where Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt was abruptly removed from Hunt's show after asserting that moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash would not treat Trump 'fairly' in the upcoming debate.

On her show Kelly said, "She embarrassed female journalists, and she embarrassed CNN," adding, "Her timidity rang through loud and clear, she was shaking."

During the segment, Hunt took offense when Leavitt cited past instances of moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash seemingly siding against Trump in their coverage, arguing that this indicated Trump might face harsher treatment than President Biden.

Kelly echoed similar sentiments when addressing the confrontation this week, criticizing Hunt's approach by saying, "Her effort to play the tough guy was immediately seen through."

"The moderators are 100 percent subject to criticism, and if she doesn't know that, she's in the wrong business," Kelly continued.

"She could have easily handled this by saying, I understand, nevertheless your boss thought this was an appropriate forum for a debate - so let's talk about that."

Kelly advised Hunt on handling future clashes with conservative voices, suggesting she should "maintain your cool and your dignity" instead.

"You embarrassed Jake Tapper too, and Dana Bash, who don't need your defense, I'm sure they would have been fine if you hadn't gone out there."

Kasie Hunt defends actions after clash with Karoline Leavitt

After her headline-making argument with Karoline Leavitt, Kasie Hunt took to social media to defend her actions, insisting that her colleagues must be "respected."

"You come on my show, you respect my colleagues. Period. I don’t care what side of the aisle you stand on, as my track record clearly shows," Hunt wrote.

Leavitt who was was abruptly cut off has also voiced her concerns, commenting on Hunt's X post, writing, "You cut off my microphone for bringing up the debate moderator’s history of anti-Trump lies."

"This proved our point that President Trump will not be treated fairly on Thursday," she said.

"Yet he is still willing to go into this 3-1 fight to bring his winning message to the American people, and he will win."

On the other hand, CNN stood by its moderators as a spokeperson reportedly said, "Jake Tapper and Dana Bash are well respected veteran journalists who have covered politics for more than five decades combined."

"They have extensive experience moderating major political debates, including CNN’s Republican Presidential Primary Debate this cycle."

"There are no two people better equipped to co-moderate a substantial and fact-based discussion and we look forward to the debate on June 27 in Atlanta."
