WASHINGTON, DC: Speaker Mike Johnson has suggested former President Donald Trump should avoid calling the 2020 election "stolen" during the upcoming debate on Thursday, 27 June.

In an interview scheduled to air on Wednesday night, June 26, on News Nation, Johnson shared his views on how Trump should handle questions about the 2020 election.

Speaker Mike Johnson's advice to Donald Trump: 'Focus on the future'

Mike Johnson, when asked how he would advise Donald Trump to respond to the question, “Who won the last election?”

"Well, you know President Trump's answer. He doesn’t think it was fair," Johnson responded.

"He thinks there was a record number of anomalies and probably fraud. And you know, some of those are objective truths," he said.

However, Johnson added, "He shouldn’t say that. I mean, what he should say is, ‘Let’s talk about the future, not the past.’”

Despite this advice, Trump has consistently repeated claims that the 2020 election was stolen.

Trump was also indicted in an election interference case after attempting to overturn the 2020 election results, which undermined President Joe Biden's victory.

The Background: Joe Biden's victory and Donald Trump's claims of fraud

Joe Biden's victory over Donald Trump in 2020 was decisive. He won the Electoral College with 306 votes to Trump’s 232 and the popular vote by more than 7 million ballots.

Several battleground states conducted recounts and thorough reviews of the results following claims of fraud, however, all of these confirmed Biden’s victory.

Trump and his campaign's claims of election fraud have been widely dismissed.

The federal Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency stated, “The November 3rd election [of 2020] was the most secure in American history.”

An exhaustive Associated Press investigation in 2021 found fewer than 475 instances of confirmed voter fraud across six battleground states, far from enough to sway the election outcome.

Trump's persistence in claiming widespread fraud has led to significant consequences, including the January 6 Capitol riots.

Despite this, Trump has maintained his stance, even as multiple court cases and investigations have found no evidence to support his claims.

Internet skeptical of 'uncoachable' Donald Trump not talking about 'stolen' 2020 election

Reactions on social media suggest skepticism about Donald Trump heeding Mike Johnson's advice.

"I have $50 on him saying it. Thanks, Mike," one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter), implying Trump will bring up the topic.

Another commented, "Oh he's gonna. I'd put money on it."

Critics also voiced their opinions, with one person stating, "That's rich, coming from an election denier."

Another added, "We have Trump on tape admitting he lost the 2020 election. Besides, he's a convicted felon and should be disqualified."

"My feeling is Trump will not take your advice. Trump is uncoachable," one person noted.

Another Trump supporter wrote, "Yes he should! Let it rip! America needs to hear it!"

One individual suggested "He should double and triple down on it. Detail the 'proof' that Mike Lindell and Giuliani have."

A few more critics said, "I hope he does that and also call the Insurrectionists in jail “patriots”…so the World can be reminded of how unhinged that man is."

"I love how Republicans constantly seem unaware of who the man is that they’ve hitched their wagons to," wrote another.
