GREENWICH, CONNECTICUT: President Joe Biden labeled his predecessor, Donald Trump, a "convicted felon," accusing him of running for president to preserve his freedoms, according to the New York Post.

On Monday, June 3, the 81-year-old incumbent, for the first time, gave the "convicted felon" tag to his Republican opponent during his remarks at a fundraiser in Greenwich, Connecticut.

"For the first time in American history a former president that is a convicted felon is now seeking the office of the presidency," Biden said at the fundraiser event held at former HBO CEO Richard Plepler's home.

Trump, on May 30, became the first former president to get convicted in a criminal case after being found guilty of all 34 counts of falsifying business records to cover up the hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election.

Biden says Trump is assaulting the American justice system

"But as disturbing as that is, more damaging is the all-out assault Donald Trump is making on the American system of justice," the president said as per a pool report.

Further, Biden claimed if Trump won the presidential election, he would pose a "greater" threat as he was seeking "revenge" for his 2020 loss and federal indictments after that.

"Something snapped in him when he lost in 2020," the Democrat continued. "He can't accept he lost, and it is literally driving him crazy."

Arguing the real estate mogul was "clearly unhinged," adding, "Now after his criminal convictions it's clear he's worried about preserving his freedoms."

Responding to Biden's comments, Trump campaign adviser Jason Miller said the incumbent would "do anything to distract" from the ongoing gun trial against his son Hunter Biden that started on June 3.

The octogenarian's fundraising came after Trump raised almost $53 million in 24 hours after a Manhattan jury announced the guilty verdict. In addition, the Republicans, along with the RNC, amassed a record-breaking $141 million in May alone.

The hush money trial verdict is scheduled to be declared on July 11, less than a week before Trump's official GOP nomination.

Internet slams Joe Biden over his remarks against Trump

Netizens slammed the incumbent for accusing Trump of running for White House to protect his freedoms and argued Biden was trying to keep his son out of prison.

One user wrote, "Projection again from quid pro Joe." Another remarked, "We’ll see what Biden has to say when he has to issue a pardon to preserve Hunter’s freedom."

"Unlike Biden who is running to keep his son and himself out of prison," a third user claimed. A fourth response read, "LOL If he was worried about that, he would not have run. It's Biden that's worried, as he should be."

Another person said, "He was running before the false conviction. Biden is running to preserve his family’s freedoms."

Someone else said, "Calling Trump a convicted Felon will turn voters away from dementia Biden. Biden & his advisers are dumb. You get Trump elected by calling him a convicted Felon."

"Biden should be worried about his own freedom. Anyone who thinks Biden is capable of being president, especially a 2nd term, is lying, or is as dumb as Biden," an individual chimed in.

Another user added, "Imagine being such a shitty President that you're in a close race with a convicted Felon that's an indictment in and of itself."
