CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA: President Joe Biden intensified his attacks on “loser” Donald Trump as he compared the people who falsely assert that the 2020 election was stolen to the Confederates who refused to accept they had lost the Civil War.

The 81-year-old POTUS drew comparisons between the fallout of the Civil War and the 2020 election on Monday, January 8, 2024, while addressing the crowd at the historic Black Mother Emanuel AME Church which was the site of the heinous racially motivated 2015 mass shooting.

During the address, Biden claimed that defeated Confederates were unable to accept their loss and instead adopted the "lost cause"—that the conflict was over state sovereignty rather than slavery, according to US News.

He contended that this falsehood resulted in Jim Crow laws that denied Black people the right to vote and subjected them to discrimination.

"Let me be clear for those who don't seem to know: Slavery was the cause of the Civil War. There's no negotiation about that,” Biden said, before adding, “Now we're living in an era of a second Lost Cause.”

“This time the lie is about the 2020 election, the election in which you made your voices heard and your power known,” he further stated.

His remarks were made a few days after Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley claimed in late December that the government's action was the reason behind the Civil War.

Former president Trump, another front-runner in the GOP primary, also suggested in recent days the Civil War could have been negotiated.

What did Joe Biden say about Donald Trump?

During his speech, the Commander-in-chief warned that the “truth is under assault in America.” “As a consequence, so is our freedom, our democracy, our very country, because without the truth there is no light. Without light there is no path from this darkness,” he stated.

He then went straight after Trump, labeling him a "loser" and denouncing his recent remarks that the community needed to "move on" following an Iowa school shooting.

He issued a warning, claiming that Trump's "MAGA Republicans" are "trying to steal history" by portraying the events on January 6, 2021, as a "peaceful protest".

“The lies that led to Jan 6 are part of a broader attack on the truth of America today that we all have seen before,” Biden said.

“The same movement that stormed the Capitol on January 6 isn’t just trying to rewrite history, they’re trying to determine whether to erase history and your future. Banning books, denying your right to vote and have it counted, destroying diversity, equality, inclusion all across America,” he added.

Internet reacts to Joe Biden’s remarks

President Biden’s remarks have garnered immense social media attention, with one user saying, “He needs a lot more of this.”

“It is like a strong talking and like a verbal smackdown with a dose of serious reality check,” the second user stated.

“DO NOT call Trump a “loser”! CALL HIM a “SORE LOSER”!” the third user asserted, while the fourth one said, “It wasn’t powerful. It was rambling, addled and retarded. Which is probably why you felt it was powerful.”

“I am not Biden’s voter but I think they need to stop talking about Trump,” the fifth user stated.

“Same kinda people. Same kinda circus,” one more wrote.
