WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President Kamala Harris is receiving support from several current and former House Democrats in the event that 81-year-old Joe Biden decides to resign, almost a week after the president's appalling performance in a presidential debate.

Representative Summer Lee, D-Pa, a member of the House's progressive "Squad," appeared on 'Mornings with Zerlina' radio show on Wednesday, July 3, where she warned Democrats, and probably Biden as well, that time is running out to make a decision about whether to change course.

Summer Lee says Kamala Harris is the 'obvious choice' to replace Joe Biden

"If our president decides this is not a pathway forward for him, we have to move very quickly. There’s not going to be time for a primary. That time is past," Rep Summer Lee said, per Fox News. "The vice president is the obvious choice. She’s sitting right there."

In addition, Rep Summer Lee cautioned about the political fallout from ignoring Kamala Harris while highlighting Black women's high voter turnout rates.

"We’re so willingly going to push aside an entire demographic, and I think that it would be very dangerous to do that, personally," she warned.

Jim Clyburn also previously voiced support for Kamala Harris

It happened just one day after Rep Jim Clyburn, D-SC, a dependable ally of Joe Biden whose backing was indispensable to Biden's acquisition of the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, refrained from expressing doubts about the president's viability.

But if Biden did withdraw, Clyburn said he would back Harris as the nominee.

"I want this ticket to continue to be Biden-Harris," the Democratic representative said on 'MSNBC Reports'.

"This party should not, in any way, do anything to work around Ms. Harris. We should do everything we can to bolster her whether she's in second place or at the top of the ticket," he added.

Former Rep Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, who challenged Biden for the 2020 presidential nomination, also wrote an op-ed in Newsweek, "Kamala Harris Should Be the Democratic Nominee for President in 2024."

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre answered speculation about Kamala Harris' election run

Karine Jean-Pierre, the press secretary for the White House, responded to rumors regarding Kamala Harris on Wednesday by reiterating that Joe Biden would not withdraw and refused to provide specifics regarding their private lunch earlier in the day.

"One of the reasons why he picked the vice president … is because she is indeed the future of the party. And he's very proud to have partnered with her and continue to partner with her and delivering an unprecedented record for the American people," Jean-Pierre said.

At the debate in Atlanta last Thursday, June 27, concerns regarding Biden's health and mental state were raised.

Rep Lloyd Doggett was the first Democrat to urge Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race

The first Democrat in the House to call for Joe Biden to withdraw from the race was Rep Lloyd Doggett of Texas, a Democrat, on Tuesday afternoon.

Shortly after, two of the most vulnerable Democrats in this election cycle, Rep Jared Golden of Maine and Rep Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington came forward and predicted that Biden would fall short against Trump.

"He is absolutely not dropping out," a Biden campaign spokesperson told Fox News. But Harris's backers have noted that if he did, she would inherit the enormous $240 million Biden-Harris campaign fund.

Internet is against Kamala Harris filling in for Joe Biden's presidential seat

Netizens were seemingly against the idea of Kamala Harris taking the role of the presidential candidate for the Democrats.

One X user tweeted, "the democrats are putting their hopes on a cackling vacuum, it’s a wonderful choice… "

Another wrote, "Some people learn from previous mistakes and some don’t."

"Great news, from a bad candidate to a worse one!" remarked one user while someone else said, "This is not an upgrade and in many ways is worse."
