LONDON, ENGLAND: The late Prince Philip allegedly had a special moniker for Meghan Markle, revealed royal biographer Ingrid Seward.

Per New York Post, in an excerpt from her upcoming book on the royal family, Seward shared the name that Prince Philip gave Markle.

What was Prince Philip’s name for Meghan Markle?

The father to King Charles III, Prince Philip died aged 99 in 2021. But before that, he met with Prince Harry’s bride - Meghan Markle.

However, those interactions allegedly reminded him of the much-maligned American socialite Wallis Simpson.

Seward’s book also reveals that Prince Philip purportedly called Markle the ‘Duchess of Windsor’ - a reference to Simpson.

Simpson, like Markle, was a US divorcee. She married Edward VIII in 1937 following a controversial abdication of the British throne by her husband.

In her new book, ‘My Mother And I', Seward claimed that Philip thought it was “uncanny” as the two women had so much in common.

Seward wrote, “He wasn’t simply referring to the fact that both were pencil-slim, dark-haired and glamorous American divorcées.”

It is said that the trajectory of Markle’s life is similar to Simpson’s as both of them were married previously before their marriages to the royal members.

Markle was previously married to film producer Trevor Engelson from 2011. They divorced in 2014.

Seward claimed that while Prince Philip harbored cautious feelings about Markle, Queen Elizabeth allegedly “approved” Markle initially. The couple got married in 2018.

Nevertheless, the later part of Simpson’s life also matched with Markle’s as well. After her marriage with Edward VIII, Simpson went to France to live there.

Similarly, in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan stepped back as working royals and relocated to Montecito, California.

Internet erupts over Prince Philip's alleged moniker for Meghan Markle

The netizens were left divided in their opinion about the nickname Prince Philip allegedly gave to Meghan Markle. While one faction of the internet sided with the late Prince, the other side contemplated whether Harry was right about the royal family.

A social media user shared multiple pictures of Markle and Wallis side by side highlighting their similarity in dressing, and noted, "Prince Philip wasn’t wrong 🤷🏻‍♀️."

Someone else, however, said, "This doesn’t portray these ppl in a good light. It makes them look like a bunch of old bigots."

Another netizen remarked, "I can just hear him saying this!"

"Prince Philip was clearly an excellent judge of character," declared someone else.

"Every Royal rota is now writing a book about what Elizabeth and Philip said, just proving Harry right," a user said.

Another supporter of the royal family noted, "Elizabeth & Philip were wise people—-they knew that Harry was making a mistake."
