WASHINTON, DC: Former president Donald Trump offered his opinion on abortion, a contentious issue for Republicans. Trump has talked of outlawing abortions beyond 16 weeks of pregnancy, with the exceptions of rape, incest, and danger to the mother's life, the New York Post reported.

Trump said on 'MediaBuzz' on Sunday, March 17, "Pretty soon, I’m going to be making a decision. And I would like to see if we could do that at all. I would like to see if we could make both sides happy."

Throughout his administration, Trump maintained a strong pro-life stance, although he faced criticism when he told MSNBC in September that Governor Ron DeSantis' six-week abortion ban was "a terrible thing and a terrible mistake".

Trump informed host Howard Kurtz, "If the Republicans spoke about it correctly, it never hurt me from the standpoint of elections. It hurt a lot of Republicans."

He added, "But I tell people, No. 1, you have to go with your heart. You have to go with your heart. But beyond that, you also have to get elected, and if you don’t have the three exceptions, I think it’s very, very hard to get elected."

Notably, access to abortion has once again been a top priority for the Democratic Party since Roe v Wade was overturned, and President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamal Harris have made abortion a major part of their 2024 campaign.

Harris toured a Minnesota Planned Parenthood clinic on Thursday, March 14, making history as the first vice president in office to visit an abortion facility. She said that one of the goals of her visit to the clinic was to raise awareness of the issue of women traveling to Minnesota for abortions from other states.

In addition, President Biden emphasized abortion and reproductive rights in his State of the Union (SOTU) speech for 2024.

Trump slammed Democrats for their "radical" posture and pushed Republicans to feel more at ease discussing the topic in the lead-up to November, while Democrats are shifting in the other direction.

He said, "The Democrats are the radicals on this issue because it’s okay to have an abortion in seven, eight, nine months, and even after birth."
