WASHINGTON, DC: On Monday, April 29, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton derided Republican South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem following her disclosure of an incident where she shot her family dog in her upcoming book slated to be released in May.

This revelation from the Governor has sparked major controversy and attracted negative attention from various political figures, including Clinton, according to The Hill.

What did Hillary Clinton say about Kristi Noem putting down her dog?

"Still true," Clinton wrote Monday on X, above her tweet from 2021 which read, "Don't vote for anyone you wouldn't trust with your dog."

The former first lady of the United States was alluding to the recent uproar over Governor Kristi Noem's killing of her nearly 14-month-old dog.

Noem, who has been considered as a potential running mate for former president Donald Trump, has recently drawn the ire of netizens after an excerpt from her book revealed that she had shot her Wirehaired Pointer dog named ‘Cricket’.

The dog was reportedly shot by Noem in a gravel ditch on her property after a pheasant hunting trip.

In her book, she expressed how she “hated” the dog and claimed that it had attacked a neighbor's chickens and attempted to bite her, The Guardian reported.

Noem also recounted how she killed a "nasty and mean" male goat that had an unpleasant odor and enjoyed chasing her children immediately after killing Cricket.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) condemned Noem's actions and humorously referred to themselves as the ‘Dogmocratic Party’ last week.

The DNC issued a statement which read, “As DNC’s canine companions, we’ve heard a lot from our owners about just how extreme and dangerous Donald Trump and his far-right MAGA allies are — but nothing could prepare us for the truly disturbing and horrifying passages Kristi Noem willingly chose to put in her new book.”

Governor Kristi Noem responded to the barrage of online criticism and justified her conduct in a statement published on Sunday on X.

Sharing the narrative, according to her, demonstrates to her constituents that she is “authentic, willing to learn from the past, and [doesn’t] shy away from tough challenges.”

“I can understand why some people are upset about a 20-year-old story of Cricket, one of the working dogs at our ranch, in my upcoming book — No Going Back,” the MAGA-aligned Governor wrote in the post.

“The book is filled with many honest stories of my life, good and bad days, challenges, painful decisions, and lessons learned,” she added.
