WASHINGTON, DC: Nearly 50 per cent of Democrats want a different candidate than President Biden at the head of their party's 2024 ticket, with former first lady Michelle Obama emerging as the front-runner, according to a poll.

According to a Rasmussen Reports survey issued on Monday, February 26, 48 percent of Democratic voters surveyed indicated they support the party 'finding another candidate to replace Joe Biden before the election in November', while 38 percent disagree. However, just 33 percent of Democrats think there will likely be a change at the ballot.

Dems seek for new candidate to replace President Biden

When it came to the choice of Biden's replacement on the ballot this autumn, should he decide not to run for reelection, the pollster discovered that most potential Democratic voters were divided on the matter.

However, Obama, 60, emerged victorious, garnering twenty percent of the vote against a field that also featured Vice President Kamala Harris, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, governors Gavin Newsom of California and Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, as well as the choices "none of the above" and "not sure."

Notably, 27 percent of Democrats chose "none of the above," according to the poll. The vice president trailed the former first lady in popularity, with 15 percent of Democrats saying they would support Harris if she were to run for president.

Around 12 percent of Democrats supported Clinton, 76, to unseat Biden in the event of a potential repeat of the 2016 presidential contest.

With 11 percent of the vote, Newsom, 56, who has previously been charged with leading a "shadow campaign" for the president if Biden must withdraw from the race due to illness, gained support. The youngest candidate, 52-year-old Whitmer, was favored by 9 percent of prospective Democratic voters. Remarkably, 6 percent of respondents said they were "unsure."

Michelle Obama could replace Joe Biden as Dems candidate

Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has claimed that Obama might be "parachuted in" during the Democratic National Convention, which will take place in the former first lady's hometown of Chicago.

Notably, Obama has stated time and time again that she would like to stay out of politics.

The oldest president in US history, Joe Biden, is currently behind GOP front-runner Donald Trump, 77, in several surveys conducted in crucial battleground states. However, Biden has not indicated that he intends to withdraw and let another Democrat run in his place.

By the time his second term in office ends, Biden would be 86, and special counsel Robert Hur's damning report on the president's controversy with sensitive papers mentioned his purportedly declining cognitive abilities.

Internet reacts as Dems prefer new candidate to replace President Biden

Several people on the internet reacted and shared their views as a new poll showed 48 percent of Democratic voters indicated they support the party 'finding another candidate to replace Joe Biden before the election in November'.

A user on social media platform X wrote, "That would be the 4th Obama Term" while one added, "If there’s one thing that should be illegal, it should be to bait and switch a candidate after a primary, let him step down and let Kamala run."

A person also stated, "Big Mike's said repeatedly that they don't want to be in politics." whereas one mentioned, "Lmao. There would likely not be an election if that were to happen. Keep pushing."

A person also said, "This is absolutely not true lmao."
