Internet divided as source claims Aaron Taylor-Johnson received 'formal offer' to play next James Bond
LONDON, ENGLAND: A new Bond in town? British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson has reportedly been offered to play the role of James Bond in the upcoming production of the franchise.
According to an insider, the 33-year-old ‘Kick-Ass’ fame actor has received a “formal offer” to take up the mantle of 007 from Daniel Craig “should he choose to accept it.”
Aaron Taylor-Johnson chosen as next James Bond, claims source
A source with knowledge about the casting of the Bond movies has recently shared with The Sun that the maker of the spy thrillers, Eon Productions, is looking forward to starting the filming this year.
Claiming that they have chosen the ‘Tenet’ actor to play the role of the British agent, the insider said, “Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it. The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back.
“As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement,” the source continued.
Though the next movie depicting M16’s best spy is delayed because of the Hollywood strikes of 2023, the insiders shared that the work has now started in full motion.
While the script's work is as scheduled, filming will soon start at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire once the casting is confirmed.
Insiders in favor of Aaron’s casting further shared with the news outlet that his eclectic performance as a psychopath in 2016’s thriller ‘Nocturnal Animals’ has opened the possibility of getting chosen as the next 007.
One of the sources said, “Aaron may not be the best known in his field but he is an incredibly talented actor,” before adding, “His role in Nocturnal Animals showed his depth as an actor.”
The insider added, “He is the perfect person to play Bond and will pick up well from where Daniel left off.”
After starting his career with 2000’s ‘The Apocalypse’, the British actor has quite a few hits in his repertoire, including 2008’s ‘Angus, Thongs And Perfect Snogging’, 2012’s ‘Anna Karenina’, and 2022’s ‘Bullet Train’ with Brad Pitt.
When Taylor-Johnson was asked about his chances of playing James Bond, he said, “I find it charming and wonderful that people see me in that role. I take it as a great compliment.”
If the actor ultimately becomes the next 007, he will be defeating the likes of Hollywood stars like Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy, Idris Elba, Henry Cavill, and James Norton.
James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli previously commented on the casting process of Bond and told Variety, "It's a big decision. It's not just casting a role. It's about a whole rethink about where we're going,” according to Daily Mail.
In 2020, she also confirmed that the next Bond will be a male, and said, “James Bond can be of any color, but he is male. I believe we should be creating new characters for women.”
