NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Alyssa Farah Griffin, former White House aide during Donald Trump's administration, called the ex-president an "existential threat to democracy".

Griffin, currently a co-host in ABC News' 'The View', slammed the Republican frontrunner in the show's recent episode while discussing his demand for absolute presidential immunity.

Stating President Joe Biden's re-election campaign's primary message is to save democracy, the ex-White House aide said, "Donald Trump is an existential threat to democracy. I believe that. I testified to the Department of Justice against him because I am afraid of him."

It was not long ago Griffin aligned with the same statement. During an interview on ABC News in December 2023 with two other ex-WHite House aides, she said that a second Trump term could threaten "American democracy".

Amid former attorney Joe Tacopina speaking about the possibility of Trump being convicted over Special Counsel Jack Smith's indictments, the ex-president has ramped up the claims for absolute presidential immunity for the head of the state to do what he feels right while in office.

Griffin also shared her fears of what Trump will do to the nation again if elected as President in November. She also raised concerns about Democratic Governors like Illinois Gov J B Pritzker claiming other GOP presidential contenders, Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley, are "just as dangerous as Trump".

Arguing such claims are false, she added, "You are playing into the hands of MAGA by saying that and by demonizing other Republicans. No one is as dangerous as Donald Trump."

The former White House aide expressed her thoughts on the possibility of both Biden's and Trump's victory in November. She added that she hoped Haley would defeat Trump and secure the GOP presidential nomination.

"Nikki Haley versus Biden, even if she beats Biden, that is much better for our country than Donald Trump ever being in the White House."

The former South Carolina Governor has shown a surge in voter support compared to her initial race. Despite coming third in the Iowa caucus, Haley is putting a tight competition for Trump in the upcoming New Hampshire primary scheduled for January 23.

Internet divided over Griffin's claims

Not so content with Griffin's claims of Trump posing a "threat to democracy," social media users' responses are divided. While most of them pointed at her working under his administration, some said she might be regretting the same.

One user opined, "She’s super grifty. Everything she’s saying is true, but she’s dying for the camera."

Another remark read, "She’s changed her stripes more often than her shirt."

"And yet she had no problem doing his dirty work. Pathetic," added a third user.

A fourth user wrote, "She says so now. 4 years ago she absolutely loved him. She can’t be trusted."

While one user remarked, "Voicing fears and taking a stand against perceived threats is an essential part of civic responsibility."

"Anyone that has ever worked for him and anyone that will ever work for him in the future ends up in the exact same spot. Regret regret regret," read another response.

Another stated, "They Speak Truth!"

While one user said, "A ticket to ride for former Trump employees. Dump on him for your 15 minutes of fame."
