WASHINGTON, DC: With the release of his year-end movie picks for 2023, former US President Barack Obama has sparked diverse reactions on social media, with some users playfully poking fun at his cinematic preferences.

Obama recently faced scrutiny for privately advocating for the retention of Harvard University President Claudine Gay, amidst calls for her resignation due to allegations of tolerating antisemitism on campus and engaging in serial plagiarism in her academic work.

In a light-hearted turn of events, Jimmy Fallon amusingly highlighted Obama's apprehensions about the potential outcome of the 2024 presidential election.

The spotlight returned to Obama when Donald Trump criticized Obamacare, vowing to replace it with his purportedly "much better" alternative program. This declaration triggered an online backlash against Trump.

Barack Obama unveils his top movie picks of 2023

On December 27, Obama faced criticism after revealing his top movie picks of 2023.

In an Instagram post, he addressed the industry's challenges earlier in the year, mentioning, "Earlier this year, writers and actors went on strike to advocate for better working conditions and protections. It led to important changes that will transform the industry for the better."

Obama showcased films that reflected the industry's hard work over the past year, "including some like Rustin, American Symphony, and Leave the World Behind", proudly released through @HigherGroundMedia, his and Michelle Obama’s production company.

Updating the caption later, he admitted missing some films and added, "What films did I miss? *12/28 Update: I just saw The Color Purple and loved it. I'm adding it to this list as one of my favorite movies of the year."
