Internet dubs NFL 'unprofessional' after league adds Taylor 'Swift' to Travis Kelce's middle name in playoff game preview

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI: The NFL seems to be caught up in the widely reported 'Love Story' between pop icon Taylor Swift and football star Travis Kelce.

In a recent playoff game preview, the league added 'Swift' to Kelce's middle name, a move that has stirred up quite a reaction on the internet.

Critics have deemed the act as 'unprofessional' following the release of an official video by the league this week, which has since made its rounds online.

NFL calls the tight end 'Travis Swift Kelce'

In an official video released by the league on YouTube, Travis Kelce has been renamed as 'Travis Swift' by the NFL.

The clip served as a preview for the Chiefs' forthcoming wild-card round game against the Dolphins.

In the video, posted on Tuesday night, a narrator is heard stating that Miami will be up against 'Travis Swift Kelce' in the upcoming match at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday.

The commentator points out that Miami has conceded seven touchdowns to tight ends in the current season.

"Now they take on Travis Swift," he says. "Kelce (has) second most yards for a tight end in 2023."

The video then transitions to a scene of Swift, seen laughing and enjoying herself in a suite at one of Kelce's games from earlier this season.

The relationship between Swift and Kelce, who are both 34, has been a sensation in the league this season. The singer has been a regular presence at Chiefs games, showing up to support her boyfriend.

She has been spotted at almost all of Kansas City’s home games this season, often seated next to Kelce's parents, Donna and Ed Kelce.

Internet called NFL unprofessional

The internet is abuzz with reactions from individuals after the NFL mentioned Swift as his middle name.

A X user tweeted, "Delete. How unprofessional of the NFL! We shouldn't give them views or promote this."

An angry user expressed, "This is beyond disrespectful… I hate the NFL and the media… they are trying their hardest to discredit a man 11 yrs work for a 6 months romance… I HATE IT HERE… why can’t they just leave them alone…."

"That's messed up..unless he ok'd it," stated another.

"So disrespectful!" penned one person. 

Another user added, "It is disrespectful to call him Travis Swift Kelce. He has a career and has earned his place before Taylor Swift was in the picture. How him respect."
