Internet elated as Donald Trump announces JD Vance is 'best suited' to be his VP candidate

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN: Former president Donald Trump selected Republican Senator JD Vance of Ohio to be his vice presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election. The announcement was made on Truth Social during the opening ceremony of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 

"After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator JD Vance of the Great State of Ohio," Trump wrote on the social media platform, according to Fox News. 

"JD has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance, and now, during the Campaign, will be strongly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and far beyond," he continued.

JD Vance was first elected to the Senate in 2022

The Ohio Republican, who had never held public office before, was elected to the Senate for the first time in 2022. Vance first gained notoriety after writing 'Hillbilly Elegy,' a 2016 memoir about his upbringing in a low-income Appalachian family that echoes the beliefs of many Americans who support Trump's policies. 

JD Vance worked as a venture capitalist before joining politics

Vance held positions as a venture capitalist at entrepreneur Peter Theil's company, Mithril Capital, and briefly at a corporate law firm before he decided to run for office. In addition, he was a US Marine, having deployed to Iraq.

Vance came out on top in a crowded Republican primary field in his Senate race before facing Democrat Representative Tim Ryan, a former presidential candidate, in a closely watched November general election that year.

Senator Marsha Blackburn praises the selection of JD Vance

The selection of Senator JD Vance as the running mate for former president Donald Trump has been praised by Senator Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn.

"The America First ticket just became stronger with Senator JD Vance joining President Trump as his running mate,” Blackburn said in a statement. “JD is a true freedom fighter, who will champion the issues important to Americans: secure borders, safer communities, lower taxes, a lethal fighting force, and the rule of law. It has been an honor to serve with JD in the U.S. Senate and to witness his hard work on behalf of Ohioans," Blackburn added.

"I know he will make an incredible Vice President for the American people, and I’m all in for Trump-Vance 2024! Together, we’ll defeat Joe Biden and the Democrats in November and save our country," she continued.

Other Republicans congratulate JD Vance on becoming Donald Trump's deputy

Senator Steve Daines, R-Mont., chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Republican Committee, released a statement Monday congratulating Senator JD Vance, R-Ohio, on being selected as former president Trump's running mate. Daines is one of the many Republicans who have come out in favor of Vance.

"As chairman of the Utah delegation to the Republican National Convention, I just cast all of Utah’s 40 votes for President Donald Trump and for his running mate, my friend and colleague JD Vance," Senator Mike Lee, R-Utah, posted on X.

Senator Tom Cotton, R-Ark, called Vance a "friend" and "a conservative champion who fights for American workers." "JD will make an outstanding vice president," Cotton said, adding "I commend President Trump’s excellent choice of a patriot who served our nation in uniform."

Senator Bill Hagerty, R-Tenn, a former ambassador to Japan in the Trump administration, called Vance a "true patriot" who will "implement his America First agenda, fight for the forgotten men and women of America, and Make America Great Again!"

Marco Rubio and Doug Burgum were reportedly informed they are not Donald Trump's 2024 running mate

According to Fox News, the three-term conservative senator from Florida, Marco Rubio, who was thought to be one of the candidates on a short list for running mate, received word that he would not be the GOP's choice for vice president in 2024.

Additionally, sources told the outlet that Doug Burgum, a prominent Trump surrogate who served as governor of North Dakota for two terms, was also made aware that he would not be selected as the former president's running mate.

Internet says Donald Trump picking JD Vance as his deputy is 'a winning Republican ticket'

Netizens praised the former president's decision to pick the Ohio senator as his second in command in the Republican campaign. At just 39 years of age, Vance has tasted success pretty much everywhere he has been into and he will hope to continue this impressive track after becoming Trump's running mate as well. 

"This is a winning Republican ticket! Strongest one in my lifetime," praised one user. Another tweeted, "President Trump you are the greatest leader ever. Even in your choice of picking a Vice President, you were thinking of our future and the next generation. Thank you. Trump/ Vance 2024."
