MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN: The Republican National Committee is set to get underway on Monday, July 15, just a couple of days after the GOP's standard-bearer, former President Donald Trump, escaped an attempted assassination.
Additionally, the former president informed Fox News' Bret Baier that he would make an announcement regarding his running mate on Monday, July 15, during an interview conducted hours before the convention gets underway.
Donald Trump has now raised the stakes of the convention
The recent shooting incident at Trump's rally in western Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 13, which left one attendee dead and two critically injured, as well as the former president evidently bleeding from a bullet wound to his ear, has changed the nature of the convention and increased the stakes.
The official roll call for the Republican Party's vice presidential nominee will occur on Monday, July 15, during the first afternoon session of the four-day conference, which is taking place in the largest city in swing state Wisconsin. However, as the convention gets underway, all eyes are on the former president as Trump is anticipated to reveal his choice of running mate, capping weeks of stringent media speculation and vetting.
Senior Republican officials told Fox News' 'Special Report' anchor Bret Baier that the announcement of the running mate might come as soon as the convention is called to order at 1 pm ET. Officials declared, "It will be part of the hooplah today kicking things off."
In the afternoon session, there is anticipated to be a roll call for the vice presidential nominee after the formal nomination of Trump.
The frontrunners for the Republican vice presidential nomination
Governor Doug Burgum of North Dakota, along with Senators JD Vance of Ohio and Marco Rubio of Florida, are thought to be the front-runners for the Republican vice presidential nomination. Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina, Governor Glenn Youngkin of Virginia, and Representatives Elise Stefanik of New York and Byron Donalds of Florida are also reportedly in the running.
The Trump campaign claims that when he challenges President Joe Biden in a rematch in the 2024 election, the former president, following his near-death encounter at the convention, will advocate for unity in the face of tragedy rather than criticizing his political rivals.
What did Senior Trump campaign adviser Jason Miller say?
Senior Trump campaign adviser Jason Miller, in an interview on Sunday night, July 14, on Fox News' 'Jesse Waters Primetime' said, Trump "was dictating to us some additional things that he wants in his speech as he looks ahead to Thursday. And I think the tone is really going to impress people. He knows that this is a key moment. He's the only one who can step up and lead in this time. And this country is desperate for leadership."
And Trump, in an interview on Sunday, July 14, with the Washington Examiner, said, "Honestly, it’s going to be a whole different speech now." "It is a chance to bring the country together. I was given that chance," he added.
Internet suggests names for Donald Trump's deputy just hours before the announcement
Netizens suggested a few names who can possibly take up the role of the VP for the Republican campaign. Many politicial pundits have previously asserted that Trump will seemingly have a difficult time in picking up the second in command for the party which boasts a remakable bench strength when it comes to filling up the highly talked about role.
One X user predicted, "President Trump might throw a curveball tonight if his VP choice is announced. Ron Desantis, or Tom Cotton?" Another tweeted, "Vivek or JD Vance is my guess. Thinking Vivek, the Republicans probably want Vance to stay in the Senate where he can do the most work. We shall see though."

"Trump may announce his choice of running mate on the first day of the Republican convention to demonstrate his leadership and decision-making abilities. Such a move will help unite supporters within the Republican Party and show that his campaign is ready to meet the challenges of the election. Trump usually likes to create a sensation, and making a major announcement at one time is also in line with his style," said one user.
