KIAWAH ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA: Former South Carolina governor and 2024 GOP presidential hopeful Nikki Haley had a terrible start to the new year, falling victim to two reported instances of swatting at her residence in the Palmetto State.

On January 1, 2024, authorities responded to a fake 911 call leading them to Haley's Kiawah Island home after a woman who identified themself as ‘Rose’ claimed the 2024 GOP candidate had killed her daughter and was threatening suicide, according to an incident report first reported by Reuters.

The incident occurred two days after another false emergency call directed law enforcement officials to her South Carolina home on December 30, 2023, as part of an inappropriate criminal ruse known as ‘swatting’.

According to a report from the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, the caller also falsely claimed to be on the phone with Haley, with her daughter lying in a pool of blood on the floor, and the former UN ambassador threatening to shoot herself.

An unidentified woman answered the door, and a deputy from the sheriff's office swiftly determined that the call was a hoax.

What did Haley say about falling victim to multiple instances of swatting?

The two incidents of swatting involving Nikki Haley took place within the confines of Kiawah Island, a gated community located in South Carolina.

With a population of approximately 2,000 people, the community is known for its affluence and exclusivity.

The incident on December 30 that resulted in Haley's residence being swatted was reported over the weekend, with several news outlets detailing an unidentified man calling in to falsely report to law enforcement authorities that a man had shot a woman and was about to hurt himself.

On Sunday, Haley said of the first swatting incident on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’, “I was not home, but Michael and I take care of my parents. They are 87 and 90, and we take care of them. And they were at home and with their caregiver.”

The 52-year-old continued, “It is an awful situation. It put the law enforcement officers in danger. It put my family in danger. And, you know, it was not a safe situation.”

The Republican presidential contender then revealed, “We’ve had it happen twice.”

“We have lived in a country of chaos for quite a while now. It is time that we remember what normal felt like. It is time that we remember what healing feels like,” she said.

Haley remarked on Sunday, adding. “It is time that we remember what it’s like not to have division, not to have hate," she added.

Swatting has become increasingly prevalent in recent months, targeting several high-profile politicians, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-Ga.) and Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows.

This dangerous and illegal act involves making a false report to law enforcement, to cause an armed police response to an individual's residence.

Swatting not only endangers the lives of innocent individuals but also places a significant burden on law enforcement resources.

Therefore, it becomes vital to identify and prosecute those responsible for this harmful and criminal behavior.

Haley has returned to South Carolina where she intends to undertake an extensive campaign over the next month eyeing the GOP primary election scheduled for February 24, in her bid to secure the Republican presidential nomination, according to the New York Post.
