'Should result in prison time': Internet concerned as Nikki Haley becomes victim of swatting attack
KIAWAH ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA: Responding to a fabricated emergency call at Nikki Haley's South Carolina residence in December 2023, state authorities allegedly looked into reports that a man had shot a woman and was willing to hurt himself.
Swatting, the term for a false report, has been a growing problem for renowned Americans and politicians from both parties and can, in turn, cause fatal mishaps.

The town of Kiawah Island witnessed the swatting attack on December 30, 2023.
According to a report from the New York Post, neither Haley nor her son were at home at the time of the occurrence.
What did South Carolina authorities reveal about the swatting incident?
Craig Harris, the director of public safety on Kiawah Island, recounted the swatting incident in an email that was acquired by Reuters.
He stated that an unidentified individual had called 911 and “claimed to have shot his girlfriend and threatened to harm himself while at the residence of Nikki Haley.”

So far, no arrests or public identification of a suspect in the case has been made by law enforcement.
Harris and other law enforcement authorities received another email from an FBI officer in South Carolina informing them that federal investigators were monitoring the bogus call and planned to initiate a "threat assessment" into the incident.
Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina, is currently making a last-stand effort to secure the 2024 Republican nomination for president.

However, former president Donald Trump has been dominating the GOP presidential race thus far, beating Haley in both the Iowa caucus and the New Hampshire primary.
Haley is the only major contender who remains in the race against Trump in her bid to secure the Republican presidential nomination.
